lol If you want to die slow go to Cavfanatic.

The biggest thread in their team talk is "At what point do you realize Blatt needs to be fired?"

Havent signed in to there for a very long time

I modded over there for a hot minute. Left when I realized that posting quality wasn't a concern that they wanted the moderator team to consider.

That's why this is the best sports forum on the internet. Great team of mods and probably even more important a great group of vet posters who keep quality in check.

It's the quality of the competition.

And this about NBA players' perceptions, not yours or any other fan's.

So Mike Brown was a better coach last year than Coach K?

That's the argument you're making.

Don't listen to fatboy. the guys love me. We won't win it this year and probably not next year. but at least i am getting some valuable on the job learning experience.

This made me lol.

Just a quick something about all this talk about Blatt being fired this game or next.

Last year, in Maccabi Tel-Aviv, a team that does not accept losses, the same thing exactly was going on, the Press, the fans, everyone was going on about " was that Blatts last game?", due to some very embarrassing performances.

And what do you know - he ends up picking off all three titles - league championship, league cup and European championship, with an out budgeted team.

I was like.....OK, he's made it to the final four, somehow......great, and that's that, he can't beat Moscow and/or Madrid. That's just impossible.

Then, he beats Moscow in the Semi finals, unbelievable, how the hell did he do that? It can't get any better than this, no way will he win the finals.

And then, in the finals, he showed Europe who he was, the maestro.
He made Madrid look like school boys. A team with 5 times the budget he had, turned to rubble, due to perfect game management.

(Lol - I got carried away there, but I'm telling it as it happened)

That's the amazing thing about Blatt - his ability to make great things happen at money time.

Griffin knows and appreciates this, so should you!

So.....wait it out till the playoffs - you're in for a ride.

Scratch that - let's win it this year, all I need are a few "miracle" games towards the end - I've done it before, I'll do it again.

Yes, I am, talk to me at the end of the season. I have no doubt in my mind that you will join the fan club. He just doesn't fail.

Lebron has won two NBA championships and been to the finals five times. David Blatt has done NOTHING, zero, zip, nada in the NBA. This is a very basic point that some of our Blatt fanboys around here seem to ignore. I can assure you that everyone else in the world, Blatt included, is aware of it.

Success in inferior leagues with talent far, far below the NBA level does not always translate to the NBA. That's not just because of differences in rules and the player's attitudes -- it's because tactics that can work when the overall skill level is lower don't always work when the skill level is higher. Pretty much any player on any NBA roster is as good as the star players Blatt game-planned for overseas. Leave anyone open and they will burn you. Successful college coaches have to prove themselves again when they come to the NBA, and the same goes for Blatt.

If Blatt alienates Lebron, if Lebron doesn't end up listening to him, then that is on Blatt, because it's the coach's job to communicate and bring the players along. Blatt isn't scoring any baskets out there on the court so his only way to affect the game is to get buy-in from his players. That's the core of his job.

All of the above is just very basic facts I'm only repeating because of some of the sillier things being said around here -- I actually think Blatt is a good coach and things will work themselves out. But they won't work themselves out if Blatt, like some of his fans around here, thinks that he is somehow entitled and superior to players like Lebron who have proven themselves in the NBA. But I'm sure he's not that stupid.
Lebron proved he could win two championships with the Heat.

When Lebron came back to the Cavs, he said he had to physically leave the Cavs organization to learn how to win.

Prior to Pat Riley hiring Erik Spolestra, Spolestra had done NOTHING, zero, zip, nada. Here's what Riley said about him at the time:
This game is now about younger coaches who are technologically skilled, innovative, and bring fresh new ideas. That's what we feel we are getting with Erik Spoelstra. He's a man that was born to coach.
SOURCE

Sound familiar?

When Lebron pulled the coach bullsh*t in Miami, the organization stood behind the coach. The organization then won championships.

If Blatt alienates Lebron, if Lebron doesn't end up listening to him, then that is on Blatt, because it's the coach's job to communicate and bring the players along.

Is Blatt failing to communicate with Lebron?
Q: Have you kind of figured out what Blatt is doing? How it benefits you, how it benefits the team?

LBJ: I got a good grips on what he wants to do offensively, on what he wants to do defensively. His offense is very different its not the usual NBA sets but for me I have a high basketball IQ, I'm able to catch on to a lot of things I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of getting myself, getting the team acclimated on what we need to offensively keep moving forward.

Lebron on the offense:
Q: How much of it was just you feeling good today opposed to you finding your spots within the offensive system?

LBJ: Well we got a great offense and if you move the ball and you cut you are able to be the recipient of a lot of [looks], at the end of a lot of great offensive sets and for me I always try to pick my spots I don't try to play forced basketball if I got a look I take it, when I got a lane I take if not I give it up to a teammate and let them make things happen as well so for me its about working the offense and getting the best shot possible.

Here is a rare instance of Lebron running the offense in the beginning of the third quarter last game.

Wide open look at the end of the offensive set.

It's tough, because sometimes LeBron stops the ball. If his teammates see him holding, they're not cutting as hard as they should to keep the play engaged.

LeBron is a great passer, incredible court vision and awareness.

But he tends to dominate the ball, he stops the ball and takes matters into his own hands. We will live with the results, but I don't think it's optimal.

LeBron is really a drive and kick player, but he has the talent and offensive awareness to run Blatt's sets, we just need to wholeheartedly commit to doing it. It's like attempting your first backflip, you either need to do it all the way, or don't do it at all. There's no "let's half-run the play." No.

I think most of the time, once Bron starts stopping the ball, his teammates don't run the sets with the aggressiveness we need.

Blatt's plays work. There's no question they work.

Our problem is executing. Especially on defense.

I'm not saying I like all of his rotation decisions, although having Miller in the starting lineup may stabilize things, but I do like how he is flexible on a game-to-game basis. Last game, he went with Miller's hot hand and sat Dion. Tonight, Dion got plenty of minutes with Miller somewhat gimpy.

I doubt players love it, but as a fan, it's interesting to see the decisions he makes. I got tired of the ultra-predictable rotations used by some of our recent coaches. Hopefully the current lineup will stay healthy enough to let Blatt play with the current group for awhile.

Something to think about: predictable rotations naturally lead to players assuming specific roles within the context of the players on the floor with them. Unpredictable rotations, to some degree, shift the focus towards the system and execution I think. I'm not suggesting that there's a profound shift, but it is something to at least consider.

Chris Haynes is a dick for baiting Lebron into that question about needing Blatt's permission to "make changes on the court".
