David Blatt is a former NBA coach

Sorry for this random question, but I'm just a bit curious as I'm not from the US:

Does Blatt have a light Israeli accent (as Dave McMenamin pointed out in his latest article)?
Because to me, he sounds like a native speaker without any accent...

I never thought he was the right coach for this team, but the Cavs had already signed him by the time LeBron decided to return, so they had no choice but to see how it will plays out.

A team like the Cavs needed a gritty competent defensive-minded head coach. A coach who isn't afraid to call out LeBron for playing lazy on both ends, etc. It was always going to be hard to find that coach. It seems like the only head coach that LeBron has total respect for is, Gregg Popovich. You have to be a proven winner at the NBA level in order for LeBron to respect you.

I don't think he ever liked Spoelstra, but he knew that Spo was Riley's right hand man and Riley is a proven winner, so eventually they won two titles together. So far, Blatt looks like a novice at the NBA level. The Cavs have won games solely because LeBron, Love, and Irving are carrying the team. Blatt is so dependent on LeBron to run the offense, you can see the desperation on his face whenever LeBron sits on the bench and the team starts playing inconsistent on every end.

There is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. Do I think Lebron is not fully buying into Blatt's system right away? Sure I don't think he is. I believe he is coming along to the idea and the bench has certainly been running his system as of late and you've seen it really work at times. Lebron runs the offense because he is the defacto point guard. Delly has been handling those duties when Lebron is on the bench.

You think the bench playing like shit is Blatts fault? No its those players collectively playing like shit. I don't think Blatt ever gets fired, Lebron should not be running the whole show like he did his last time here. It is counter productive and prevents us from winning. MJ was never allowed to run the franchise and Lebron didn't in Miami. We should learn from our mistakes.

He is from the United States just has spent the last few decades overseas.

Someone needs to tell Mark Jackson this. Seems Mark thinks it's just European stuff that won't work in the NBA.

I'm sure the guy isn't burned at all that he couldn't find a job this year in the NBA. Not one bit.

Smearing other coaches isn't going to help Mark, especially since GS looks better since you left.

In an article about Harrison Barnes, I found this bit about Mark Jackson. Anyone that thinks this guy would have been a better choice over David Blatt is a complete fool. How long do you think it would have taken, in the adversity this team faced while trying to gel at the beginning of the season, before Jackson started blaming the players? He's not a good coach. The Warriors have great players, and Steve Kerr is probably the second luckiest coach in the Association.

Re-establishing a favorable shot selection
Mark Jackson has already been critiqued a lot, most notably by the recent comments from Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob who said at a VC luncheon that Jackson “couldn’t get along with anybody else in the organization…you can’t have 200 people in the organization not like you.” I don’t want to harp on Jackson’s faults more than has already been done, but Barnes was one of the players most negatively impacted by the lack of offensive scheme and movement.

Lebron James is the problem on this team. He left after shooting a left handed free throw and giving up on a series. He comes back with 2 rings but with skills that even the true believers can see are diminished. If the vote was held today he would not be in top 5 in MVP voting. His coach again has a system that he chooses to ignore. When he has ball in hand there is no ball movement. He has put his people back where they shouldnt be again. He doesnt seem coachable.

But it was big boy basketball and of course hands down man down.

We aren't gonna win anything without LeBron, so I don't really see your point in hating on him. The guy has more upsides than downsides by far. Including the fact that he was able to bring good players with him this time.

I actually don't mind if he chooses to go in at some points, when one of the top 3 players in the world is okay with playing 37-40 minutes a night, I have to think a coach is gonna like that.

The biggest question about LeBron is how much is he going to listen to Blatt. We also know there's gonna be some LeIso in every game, heck it's a damn good option when he shoots like he did last year. But he's also gotta listen to Blatt too. I expect he will, he's intelligent enough.

As far as lost athleticism goes, his shooting percentages the last couple years went up to make up for not bulldozing people every other play like he did as a kid.

The funny part of all this is that if we go on to win a championship it most likely never would have happened if LeBron hadn't left us for 4 years in the first place. I suspect we will look back and laugh at the whole thing if that ever happens.

So what you're saying is that if you remove LeBron James from this team we'd be better than 16-10? Do you honestly believe that?

Last I checked when we got Lebron the goal was to win a championship not be a middle of the road play off team.

I couldn't believe you've been here since 2008 with over 2.5k posts.

You should know better than to judge this team's playoff success 26 games into the season.

That means I have watched a lot of bad basketball since I started following the CAVS in 74-75 the year prior to the miracle. I knew when John Lambert was a rookie that he was a stiff as was Danny Ferry. I knew when they said the Kemp had gained weight to play in the rugged east that it was a bold faced lie.

Also I always believed that there was some kind of misprint that we were supposed to get the picks in the Ron Harper deal.

Yet it still doesn't mean that you can make an intelligent decree on this team's playoff chances 26 games into the season.

Hell, if the playoffs started today, without this team growing or gelling any more, we'd still be favored to make it out of the East--and nearly a lock to make the ECF's.
