The Cavs vs Bulls Series

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Landing Gasol for $7 million a year was the coup of the off-season.

He's averaging 18/11/2.2 blocks a game for less than half of what we are paying Kevin Love and they didn't have to give up a thing to get him.

to think we could probably have gotten Gasol and kept Wiggins -- this team with Gasol+Wiggins instead of Love is a better team. Sigh, no use looking backwards.

Not to mention we would have more assets and cap space available to improve the bench...

I honestly thought Dion would be a huge asset against the Bulls in the hypothetical match-up against them. He's buddies with Jimmy Butler and he'd be motivated for that entire series.

Not that I think the outcome will have changed because of the trade, just that I figured Dion was a lock for being a positive member of our team for that series.

It's basically Rose shooting them out of games. 3-15 tonight, 22-93. They don't even need him to be very good to win--they just need him to not completely suck and they win. I'm still stunned to see Butler possibly have a 60% TS season and shooting umpteen FTs every damn game. There's nothing the improves a team like great internal improvement, something I had hoped we would have seen that internal growth from Kyrie/Dion/TT.

Meanwhile Bulls losing in embarrassing fashion against Utah at home (97-77).

That starting line up in your avatar one could ever have predicted that. That line up when full force will do damage and the bench now has scoring as well. The guys just got to start hitting shoots. The D that group will bring will be such a welcome and as you see teams like the Bulls we will math up fine with. The team that scares me in a play off is Toronto

I think the acquisition of Mozgov makes a difference.

Noah is out today. However, when playing them in the playoffs you can put LeBron on Noah. The Heat would do that when they wanted to play small ball. Put Mozgov on Gasol.

Mozgov
LeBron
Shump
JR Smith
Kyrie

Could be a nice small ball lineup to use against the Bulls.

I still expect Kevin Love to be a big contributer. However, this is a nice change of pace lineup.

Eh... we all know Pau would have ended shooting nothing but 18-20 footers. He would have hated it here, and we would have hated him because he wouldn't make enough of those shots.

Shumpert works out with Jimmy Butler all summer.

We have much more offensive firepower and the bulls have not been the defensive stalwarts they once were, except for Butler... He would finish second after Curry in the mvp for me

Although the loss of varejao hurt us, they have trouble against teams that go small, particularly if Noah is not 100% to be the manic defensive force in the middle. Should be a great series, but Atlanta is still the team to be beat in the east based on what I have seen

I can't remember the Heat putting LeBron on Noah at all, Bosh and Chris Anderson were the only ones I can remember ever matching up with him.

And the Heat didn't occasionally want to play small ball, after winning a title in 2012 exclusively playing small ball it was the only way they play.

They would put LeBron on Noah and let Bosh guard Boozer. It wasnt for long stretches but they did it in recent years.

Here's a surprise: Butler' DRPM is only +.04 and until recently was a negative.

DRating with Butler: 106.6
DRating w/o Butler: 102.0

Butler's on-off: -1.0 per 100 possessions.
Rose's on-off: -2.2 per 100 possessions.

The Bulls are somehow better with Butler and Rose sitting on the bench, respectively. I don't know whether this should encourage me or frighten me.

Should encourage you unless they decide to start brooks...

Also a sign that thibodeau doesn't maximize efficiency by running a guy like Butler into the ground.

You probably have to put Love on Noah. Even when he gets back from the ankle injury, he's been a complete non-factor offensively. Its clear that Mozgov's size gives Gasol problems. Love will just have to make sure he keeps Noah off the glass.
