No thread on this? Well, it's almost time for people to start paying attention again, so we might as well have a thread for all of the bickering.

I didn't watch Obama's speech, and I couldn't possibly care less what he had to say. Nor did I see the GOP official response, because if they were being truthful it wouldn't be any different than whatever Obama said.

I'll put Rand Paul's response here for the haters to stew over. I just wish I had one from his old man to post.

The last SOTU I watched was in 2002, because I figured something important might actually be said. Otherwise, they're just extended political commercials.

I did see where Obama talked about "no more campaigning." I plugged that into my universal translator, and it came up "now I'm going to be say and do what I really believe rather than all that shit I had to say to get elected."

Can we post all four or five conservative responses, many of which contradicted each other and further proved their party is basically in shambles?

You can post whatever you want. I'm more concerned with how we are ruled than what team I am on, but whatever floats your boat.

Rand Paul isn't his dad, Optimus... He's a Republican with a libertarian slant; his father was a Libertarian with a conservative slant.

Just show Rubio awkwardly drinking copious amounts of water and I'm good.

Oh I'm fully aware. He's still the best we are going to get, so I'll vote for him, unless his father or someone equally acceptable runs third party.

If there were somebody with less feasible ideas and an unreasonably radical approach to governing that is most likely empty rhetoric, I'm sure you'd vote for them.

We'll see if you say the same after the primary debates when Paul will be pressured to lurch far to the neocon right in order to garner support from the GOP establishment.

Besides, even if Paul did get elected, he'd have a harder time with some of his proposals than Obama does today.

If Paul got elected he would be killed before his inauguration. As for what he will say in the debates, I know what he will have to say. I just have to hope he is playing the game.

The thing is when Ron was running, I knew what he believed, but he talked about transitioning away from how things are done now, that you can't stop everything overnight. Except for the warmongering, Rand is pretty much running on Ron's transitional plans.

There's really nothing to lose. It's not like voting means anything. It is just the government's way of appeasing people and make them feel like they have a say in how they are ruled. Last time I voted for Gary Johnson who I didn't care for, just to give the Libertarian party an extra vote. If Rand isn't the Republican nominee I will either do the same or just stay home.

Edit: I just looked at your bold part again. Regardless he is going to be the best we get. Who is better? Hillary? She is a bloodthirsty pig. Warren? Bush? Romney? I hear Lindsey Graham wants to run. The only difference between him and Hillary is that Hillary stopped sucking dick 20 years ago. I can stomach a vote for Rand if he makes it. I can't stomach voting for the others.

There's really nothing to lose.

Other than his integrity, running to the right and forcing himself to walk back some of the ideals and principles which supposedly set him apart from the "mainstream" and subsequently give him such support against the anti-establishment folk like yourself.

This isn't to say I don't agree with you, mostly.

Well, as cynical as it may be, what he says to get elected isn't as important as what he does once he's there. Kind of like Reagan with the religious right.

I don't agree with Paul on some foreign policy issues, but I really like him on other major issues, and he's not a nut like his father. He may be the GOP candidate who has the best chance of appealing to younger voters, and breaking that aspect of the Democratic coalition. He'd be a good contrast with Hilary.

I mean there is nothing to lose for me to vote blindly for him hoping he is more like his father than he lets on. If he really isn't, oh shit, I wasted my precious vote that would have gone to someone getting 2% if I didn't give it to him. He has a lot to lose, but he has obviously decided on his course of action already.
