Game 44: Hornets @ Cavs, Friday, January 23, 2014, 7:30 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What did he say? I missed the presser.

One of them asked him how he was emotionally when he saw that sequence of 3 or 4 straight alley-oop possessions in the second quarter and Blatt was basically like "you know I'm just trying to coach a basketball game, that stuff really doesn't get to me. A moment I did get excited about was Shawn Marion finishing an alley oop. That made me 5 years younger."

Something like that.

Here's a fantastic review of tonight's game I just found online. Complete with verbal fumbles, yawns and more.

The icing on the cake right here.

lol he's just reading the stats 90% of the video and then says Smith plays well. haha. I wonder what went through his head when he uploaded this. Like its some in depth analysis.

Blatt has reacted a few times like that when asked about his personal feelings or his emotions (it started when the media was slamming him during the losing streak). He loves to answer basketball questions, although he is overly careful about giving away too much. He also likes to talk about aspects of how certain players are performing. But if you start a question with "how did you feel about", it is pretty much a recipe for getting shutdown. I guess that's what happens when you coach for decades. Plus those NEOMG guys can be insufferable.

The guy is a basketball nerd. He loves the game and loves discussing it. Questions like "how did you feel about 4 straight alleyoops?" are amateur journalism and shouldn't even be asked. What answer do you expect to get? "I felt like shit, I hope we weren't scoring like crazy on huge amazing plays every trip down the court".

Just playing flat out well lately. Its hard to judge because they were up by so much halfway through the 2nd quarter (I think they hit up 40 somewhere there) that you know they cant sustain it. We could've played the usual rotation and won by like 60 but theres little point in that really I guess.

I'm loving the balance we have. Its shared ball, lots of passing, WAY less 1 on 1 and hero ball. Kyrie, Lebron, and Love take their shots but they're generally not forcing. Theres some little things happening too that are contributing that go unnoticed:

Moz is way better than I thought. Hes probably average on D given his size, but even that is huge. He runs the floor, every time down. It puts pressure on the other team to get back.

Kyrie is stopping people in transition lately. If he could turn into our Danny Green and stop a fast break once a game that would be huge. His effort on both ends is way up and he looks more comfortable handling the ball, taking some of that load off Lebron.

JR is actually a smart player. He gets in good spots on D and creates steals. I think it helps that his shot is falling, but the way things are going, having a 20 point player at the 2, I dont see Shump starting, though I'd like him to get minutes. If he plays like this through the year, the Knicks fans are going to be even madder than they already are.

I like getting Lebron a rest midway through the 1st then again midway through each quarter. It would be easier to keep him at 36 minutes (3 minutes out each quarter), and he's still present at the beginning and end of each quarter. It also brackets the rest between periods with rest in the middle.

Havent even needed Love to do much, but the outlet is back. Even 2 breakaway possessions a game is huge

Gotta like that we're putting away the teams we're supposed to. Cant wait to see how we do against OKC.

Watching the GS game against the Kings. About to see another 75 point, 30+ lead half.
The Kings are absolutely lost.

Was at the game in the nose bleeds. My wife got me tickets for my birthday, so she wins...

Awesome game. Team work on defense was smothering. On offense watching Lebron and Mozgov in a complex pick and roll at the top of the key, you could hust see the exasparation of the defenders. I dont recall Lebron and Bosh having that kind of understanding, but somehow Mosgov seems to understand what Lebron is doing and shields just right. Its kind of like watching two jazz players when they are in synch.. With practice lebron scores at will. Mozgov does change the game inside immensely. He blocks, alters shots just scares people defensively, and offensively creates space whereever he goes, and if you lay off him any where within ten feet he is at the rim in a heartbeat, and all of the starters can se it coming and take advantage. Two firsts was not too much to give up for him...

For the first time ever, I saw what other people complain about in TT. He is strong as an ox, and never lays off, but sometimes he is just physically awkward. Still I think he remains a key player, because he is the kind that does not get injured and brings it every game.. There is a clear sympatico between Kyrie and TT though. They look for each other in the mix.

Kyrie played some excellent defense tonight. Very persistant fighting picks, staying after the ball..

. Lebron looked really comfortable with JR and Mozgov..They worked hard to involve love tonight, and he had a solid game, but he just seems a little left out..

Lots of passing, getting up court after a defensive stop. Movement off ball, Charlotte was just unable to stop it. At one point we were 72 % from three point range.

Shumpert was ready to play.. He is all that defensively, he has energy like delly, but the size and athleticism to stay with fast guards. I think it will be hard not to start him, but I dont see how you move smith to the bench. Bad shot jackin smith was not evident in this game, and as I said Lebron seems to be aware of smith all the time. I think Shumpert was hesitant to take the long ball, and te hornets seemed to expect that. They would give him room for the short jumper, just to keep him off the rim. Several times he had looks from15 feet and passed them up to dribble in traffic.

I know people have been down on delly, but he does know how to set other people up. In the last eight or so minutes he was completely focused on getting Brenda looks ( I think because Jefferson and others were picking on him on the other end) Its hard to get Brenda points, because it is clearly painful for him to move, and he has little or no strength. But after four or five fails, delly drove and drew the defender just enough to give brenda space under the basket, and a perfctly timed shuttle pass led to that and one dunk...

Marion is really good still. I would have him as the best sixth man on this team, although Tristan and I think Shumpert will be in the running for that. But for 36, he is still dangerous on both ends.

Mike miller is fast in one direction but has no lateral..He got the ball a lot more than was a good idea, Jones was OK, but not really that good. Harris was exactly what we expect from Harris, not too good defensively, good long stroke.

One small thing - really liked Delly's minutes tonight. Will go unnoticed but I liked how he made a point to get Haywood a basket late in the game and how he kept the offense rolling in garbage time. I know he has had his struggles this year but I still love the guy, he always brings the effort.

Lance "Blowjob" Stephenson has really fallen so far. What a contract year of a player.

Team on a roll since Urban spoke to them.

While normally I think those questions are dumb, some coaches might be grumpy about showboating, etc.. But Blatt made a comment about those kind of plays after the last game that I thought was really interesting. He said basketball is a game that is fun, and should be played with joy. He doesn't mind those kind of plays for that reason. I liked Potato Head as a person, but that's the kind of thing he or some of our other coaches might have grumbled about if asked.

I much prefer Blatt's attitude. As long as you're playing winning ball, having fun shouldn't be a bad thing.
