Ray Farmer Suspended 4 Games for Text-Gate

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Browns are supposed to at least give us false hope going into the off-season, so far they can't even do that much for us.

I gotta say, I do find it odd, ever since Deflategate, all of a sudden the Falcons are under investigation, and now us.

He certainly didn't produce enough for the value of money he's going to ask for, add that on top of him having serious concussion problems and very prone to them, best that we do probably move on anyways.

Good talent nonetheless but fans get screwed in the end.

Yeah, it's not a big loss for the Browns. I just don't blame him personally for not wanting to play for this organization anymore.

You find it odd? I don't. #ProtectNE at all costs.

Dear god. There is no way we will lose a first for this, and if we do it will be the greatest overreach in the history of sports.

Some of you are going to be so livid. I don't know how anyone thinks there's no way we'll lose a pick. Do you realize what is going on?

Whether fair or foul, and maybe Farmar wasn't doing anything deceptive, I'd be shocked if we didn't lose a pick if we're guilty.

The NFL has taken an integrity hit, and Roger is going to make an example out of a few franchises if needed.

I find it very odd though, suddenly there are all these investigations. It makes you wonder if the NFL has known about these things for awhile and decided to look the other way.

The worst part about this is Haslam has only owned the franchise for a few years and he has the reputation as being the worst owner in the league.

He's moving forward with Manziel and just hired a coaching staff with about as much experience in the NFL as Johnny does sobriety.

He wants to be right so effing bad and he's willing to do anything it takes. If this season is a failure he will fire everyone and start all over again only there won't be any competent candidates left who would ever step foot in his office.

This is the worst case scenario. This regime is the worst thing to happen to Cleveland sports. I hope everyone enjoyed their 7 win season because it's about to get a whole lot worse.

I wouldn't be surprised if we lose a pick, even though as someone else pointed out Pittspuke didn't lose one when Tomlin literally interfered with the play on the field.

But there is no way that they can take away a first rounder for this, which is what I was reacting to.

I hope not, but with everything that's been happening it wouldn't surprise me.

Roger Goodell doesn't care about fair, he only cares about his image, which is in the toilet.

The Falcons are definitely going to lose a pick though.

I'm looking forward to free agency. Let's see who were linked too, who's visiting and whatnot. Money talks, bullshit walks.

Pettine didn't want to get rid of Shanahan so I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I don't know how one could surmise that from the information we have unless you're burying your head in the snow on purpose.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/01/cleveland_browns_mike_pettine_16.html

Mike Pettine let former Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan walk away without a battle because he didn't want someone on his staff that didn't want to be here. "It was something that we didn't want to drag out,'' said Pettine during new coordinator John DeFilippo's introductory press conference.

"It's just very hard to win in the NFL (even) when everybody's into it and they truly want to be there, and again if you have somebody that just doesn't want to be there, I know it's easy to say, 'Hey he's under contract, hold him to it,' (but now) there's a dark cloud over your coaching offices and I've been a part of that.

"This business, it's hard to win and you've got to have everybody into it, passionate about the Cleveland Browns and pulling the rope in the same direction."

The reason its a rule violation for coach is gambling concerns and it dates back to 2003 with Mora fined 25 k for calling league officials during a game and joe horn 30k for pretending to use a cell phone after a touchdown.
IF Shanahan was under instructions to use the cell phone then that is a major game integrity issue and pre meditated. Its about accountability.

If there was ever a game fixing investigation. Cell phone use would bolster the appearance of impropriety.

much more serious game wise than any of these other scenarios people are pointing to

Now I feel bad because I think you missed the boat on these quotes. This is politically correct coach speak and nothing more. What else can Pettine say? "Shanahan has a ton of dirt on this organization and strong armed us out of his deal?" (which is true) or "We really wanted to keep Shanahan but we're so dysfunctional that he didn't want to stay?" (which is also true).

The guy quit, he wasn't fired. If you really want to use Pettine's quotes, he also said he "no issues" with Shanahan and that he was "very up-front and very honest". Pettine also said he arranged a meeting between Kyle and Jimmy Haslam and after that meeting, Shanahan was a free man.

We can be unhappy about how Shanahan handled his business to get out of his deal, which is justified, but making it seem like the Browns are happy he's gone or he didn't do a good job this season and wasn't welcomed back is just misplaced anger. I mean, shit, Farmer is texting Loggains and various ball boys/equipment managers on the sidelines to tell Shanahan who to play and which plays to call. C'mon.....

So I'm an asshat for taking Pettine at his word because I'm so dumb that I don't realize that the media can be used for propaganda purposes, but I should just accept as gospel that Laconfora piece today and other pieces that have come out stating that we are the most dysfunctional franchise ever and that's why Shanahan ran away screaming?

Or maybe a smarter approach would be to realize that the truth is somewhere in the middle, in that Shanahan wasn't happy that his play calling was questioned and we weren't thrilled with a guy that didn't want to be here and wasn't open to criticism?

Or I guess you could just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong when I provide evidence contrary to your condescending arguments?

Pretty much going to need Haslam pissing on the ashes of a burned down First Energy Stadium at this point, I'd imagine.

You have literally 20 sources go on the record for a Manziel story a month ago. You have numerous sources and pieces on the organizational dysfunction.

I get that the petty things missed in the La Canfora article today maybe appear to be more biased, but it doesn't really change the overall point here.

The Browns are dysfunctional. Yes, amongst the worst in football.

It's almost comical not to admit that at this point.

we do know a couple things
"This prohibition ... applies to the use of any electronic communication devices, including but not limited to a cell phone, smart phone, tablet device, or any type of computer, whether online or stand-alone, including laptop and hand-held computers, in the coaches' booths, on the sidelines, in the locker room (after kickoff), or in any other club-controlled area on game day beginning ninety (90) minutes prior to kickoff and continuing through the end of the game, including halftime (with the exception of League-issued tablets used for coaches' still photos).

"Team doctors and members of the athletic training staff are permitted to use tablet devices, cell phones, smart phones, or similar devices within the bench area and locker room to communicate player injury information, but may not communicate competitive or strategic information.

"Club football operations staff members are permitted to use cell phones outside the coaches' booths, bench areas, and locker rooms only when handling non-competitive and/or non-strategic communication."

This rule has been in place and regularly enforced for over 10 years.

If Shanahan was receiving text either by phone or tablet then he was violating the rules unless he was following instructions from the team. Shanahan Leaving the Browns absolves Shanahan to a point ane vd allows him to avoid tarnishing his reputation as an offensive coordinator.
If the various reports are correct. that this topic was being discussed by players and coaches. this was not an isolated incident and it would of been reported to the NFL at some point.
We know why these rules are in place and the only thing left tio be determined is if the practice offered any competitive advantage before punishment is determined.

Regardless of how one feels the level of involvement the organization should have over the decisions their coaching staff makes during the game, it is wrong to mandate rules violations to do so.

Farmer screwed up lets hope he learned his lesson.
