Kyrie Irving

With Lebron I'd rather have Kyrie then Westbrook (the shooting and he seems like he's embraced the second fiddle role)

Now if I didn't have bonafide MVP/superstar type already on my team, I'd take Westbrook over Irving. The dude is an animal out there: combination of athleticism and mentality makes him a better alpha dog. Both are great players

Westbrook is not winning MVP, he doesn't even have a shot at it. He is playing incredibly, but his team is the 8 seed, with potential to move to 6th at highest. In other words no chance when 8+ teams have a better record than his.

However, Kyrie is not a better player than Russ, inarguable.

1st class: Curry, Westbrook, Paul

2nd class: Kyrie, Lillard, Teague, Lowry, Wall, Conley.

3rd class: Bledsoe, Parker, Rose, Lawson, Walker, Knight.

4th class: Rondo, Carter-Williams, Jennings

Kyrie has had a breakout season so far, showing he can be more of a complete PG. Defending, hustling, assisting. The guy has Hall of Fame level talent and is flourishing now. Basketball IQ is high and he's showing it.

Kyrie is right now on top of the second fiddle which has Lillard, Wall, Lowry, Teague, Conley. He's playing better than these guys and wouldn't choose any of them over him.

Actually I'd take him over Paul for Cleveland. His style suits better, we need his scoring.

So right now he's a top 4 PG in this league, and the top 3 I'd pick for this team. This in the moment NBA has all time talent at the position.

And his upside is bigger than anyone else. The 3 guys who are better than him, generally speaking, are at their peak in their careers. 3 Hall of Fame guys. And he's getting there.

That's pretty damn good.

People are getting a little too biased around here lately...cmon now we don't want to turn into delusional Lakers fans :chuckle:

In the last few days I've seen people say that Kyrie is better than Westbrook, better than Curry, and better than Paul.

Why is it so shocking to you that people on a site called realCAVSfans are sticking up for a Cavs player?

The problem is that people are confusing better pg with better player. Kyrie is not that great of a pg. I'd say Lowry and Conley are better pgs than he is. He is by far the better player though. He had his opportunity to lead the team as pg for 4 years and then Lebron decided to do the job.

Talent wise I'd say Kyrie is top 10 or 15 in the NBA overall. PG wise top 10 maybe.

Talent wise he is easily top 10. Even some of the players better than him right now arent more talented(Curry, Harden, ect.) only player without a doubt more talented (basketball wise not athleticism) are Lebron, Durant and Davis). Guys like Westbrook and so on are debatable depending on if you prefer natural skills or athleticism

It's not shocking and it isn't sticking up lol. Westbrook is far and away the better player and it'd be ridiculous to claim otherwise. Kyrie's my favorite player but I don't let my fandom dictate my evaluation of skill when the gap beyween players isn't all too close. You would look at it differently if you saw Raptors fans claiming Lowry was the best point guard in the league. This isn't to say Kyrie isn't good. He's probably top 5 in point guards. But he's young and he has to improve to get to Russ level.

I'd agree with this for sure.

I'm sorry but Kyrie is 1st class... He has turned the corner so far this year, especially defensively and is better than all of the other PG's you paired him with

The crux of my argument is that Westbrook is incredible and an MVP caliber player, which you just supported by saying the reason he won't win MVP is his team's record and not his performance on the court.. :chuckle:

He's not better than Wall, really. They're different kinds of guards in all honesty but I'm not comfortable saying he's better than Wall.

Again, this is a Cavs site...every person here (save for a few non-Cavs fans), is going to take a Cavs-centric view on things. On THIS team, Kyrie is better than Westbrook...situations matter in basketball and players aren't just judged in the vacuum of accumulated stats...we have already seen how Westbrook has struggled to look this good playing besides an even lower usage player than LeBron in KD. So what makes you think, from a Cavs fans perspective, that Westbrook would be better on this team than Kyrie? That is why people are saying Kyrie is better or they would rather have Kyrie over Westbrook, because they are taking our team into account.

Yes, Kyrie is a better fit for our team and Russ is a better fit for his team. But what in the world do you mean Russ has struggled to look good next to KD lol? He's been putting up monster statlines all season with and without Durant. Anyways if you're having all 30 teams draft every player in the league for ONE season right now, every team would pick Russ to start a team before Kyrie and I'm sorry but that's a fact. I want to reiterate though that for the future it's definitely up in the air because Kyrie is young and I could see him eventually passing Russell.

Never said he struggled to look good next to Durant...go read what I said again. And I never said I wouldn't take Westbrook over Kyrie for one year...unfortunately, that's not how basketball works.
