IMO, this is about pride. Love doesn't want to known as a player that "asks" for rest. Blatt deferred to himself by saying he told Kevin he would rest a couple games. Guarantee we see the same for James and maybe Irving as the season winds down.

The narrative in the public of Kevin being hurt or asking for rest hurts his potential negotiating stance going forward, whether it be for the Cavs or any other team. He could conceivably not get a max due to the fact he is damaged and/or an injury risk.

Both sides are protected....move forward.

Can we put the freaking out about Love's pending free agency on pause? At least until after the playoffs? Worrying about it right now is a waste of time. Particularly since the only talk of him leaving is purely mindless speculation from those in the media who specialize in mindless speculation.

I'm sad now... Just brings back really bad memories of 2010.

Everyone said then "he's not going anywhere... book it."

Yeah, not even close. Things are much different than they were with LeBron in 2010.

For one, LeBron is here for the long haul. Windy saying he will "use his opt out as leverage" is 100% bullshit. LeBron has pegged himself with the Cavs for the foreseeable future ever since he released that letter and started all of the homecoming shit. Even worse for him from a PR standpoint if he was to leave this summer than it was in 2010, and I would think the Cavs FO could call that bluff pretty easily.

Which leads to back to the changes in circumstances from 2010. LeBron is here for the long haul, unlike when he was here the last time, so players both on the team and looking to join know he is committed long term. Kyrie is also locked up for another 5 years. Those 2 plus any other good NBA player will be competing for championships for the next 4 or 5 years at minimum, something we couldn't say in 2010. Why would you leave that situation after complaining about losing the last few years? Unless this guy really only cares about getting his, which I doubt because, again, he has been complaining about losing the last few years. Would completely contradict him forcing himself out of Minnesota if he went to LA or Boston like it is being speculated.

Another difference is Love himself. Dude has never been given the legit, full max. Part of the reason he soured on Minnesota, besides all of the losing, was that Khan refused to give him a full max because he viewed Rubio as their true max player and Love as injury prone. That rubbed Love the wrong way and was the beginning of the end for him in Minnesota. Unless we trade him, unlikely, we are the only team that can give him the full max. Did I mention he complained about losing the last few years he was there?

Honestly, this is all talk...but some here (not you in particular, Gouri) I swear are somewhat wanting Love to leave just so they can go and say "see, I told you trading Wiggins was a bad idea!". It literally makes 0 sense for him to leave as long as Kyrie and LeBron are here, and I already went through how they aren't going anywhere...from monetary reasons to basketball reasons and to his overall legacy as a player, which I am sure he cares about like all great players, it just makes 0 sense to me that he would leave. In a sense, it is the same shit we heard about Kyrie last year from Windy during the season. We all know how that played out.

I know you aren't talking about me, but I think any Cavaliers fan would be devastated if Love left.. Like, fucking broken. I know how I felt after The Decision... It was unreal..

I just don't like the fact that we are once again staring down the barrel of a gun... and we will again next season as well.

I also don't know if I agree that "there is no reason for him to leave." As I said before, if I were Kevin Love, I'd strongly consider my options in the summer. Sitting on the bench in the 4th quarter is not what someone who thinks he's Top 5 in the NBA would want to be doing.

What are we going to hem & haw about when LeBron & Love sign max extensions with us 16 months from now? I want to know now so I can get a head start on it.

Yeah, Love leaving would be a killer, I agree, but it still makes 0 sense for me that he would. I just don't see how someone who wanted the max and a chance to win will pass that up just to go put up better numbers and win less while getting paid less.

As for the bolded, this has rarely happened lately until the San Antonio game, which I thought was reported that his back was acting up. I mean, just watching the game you could tell he was off...the dude was on one knee during some free throw attempts at one point in the 2nd half. I don't think I've ever seen that in an NBA game.

And we will always be staring down the barrel of a gun. We're Cleveland, the media will try to force out star players all the time. This has been happening all of my life with the Indians and the Cavs. Belle, Ramirez, Thome, Sabathia, Lee, LeBron, Kyrie, and now Love. We'll deal with it again in a few years when Kyrie's contract is up too, guarantee it. Just the way it is.

You've talked me back away from the ledge...

Love is going nowhere

You have to question why smoke continues to swirl around on this. Is Love a drama queen whose story changes with his mood or is there some other reason? Love and the Cavs know that the media is hyper-focused on the Love-Cavs relationship. It should be easy to make this a non-story. One day Love is happy and smiling, the next day there are 'signals' that all isn't well. One day Love is intimating he needs the rest for his back, another he's saying it's not his back. Blatt says Love came to him, Love insists it was the other way around. Why are the stories divergent? If this is Love-created then the Cavs need to evaluate what they're doing with a guy who's creating this much drama while on the first winner of his career, a title contender no less. There's room for improvement in his role but he's a strong contributor to a team that's now playing .800 ball and it's only their first year together. This is a serious problem? You'd think someone would be thrilled to be in this position.

I'd be pissed off if I wasn't being used properly. Not every team is like the Spurs where everyone is ok with not playing or being used in the offense. Dude put up 26/13 last year and now is Ryan Anderson 2.0. He can easily go to another team, get a max contract, win lots of games, and be utilized properly.
