Ray Farmer Suspended 4 Games for Text-Gate

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hilarious how some Browns fans are actually upset they didn't lose a pick. :chuckle:

On a more serious inquiry, Ian Rapoport posted this:

Got to wonder how that reflects on the Patriots's situation. On one end, Farmer is isolated in his punishment, on another McKay didn't know, but is held responsible because he oversees the gameday ops. This is actually very interesting, how this is all unfolding.

Edit: I found this to be interesting... The violations made by the Falcons spanned part of last season, but also was happening in 2013.

Theyre upset they argued so vehemently in favor of something that was deemed too harsh of a punishment. Which is the stance you and i took the whole time, oddly enough: that docking picks was not fair.

The NFL took away Ray-Ray's phone, allowance, and grounded him for 4 weeks... I'm a little more old-school. I think a spanking is in order with a sincere apology to Mr. Hoyer. I guess this'll have to do.

Not that PTI is actual news, but both Kornheiser and Wilbon immediately said Farmer "fell on the sword" for Haslam, which continues to be one of the more obvious cover ups in Haslam's career of cover ups. This is how fired college offensive coordinators end up your new NFL assistants.

I dunno about all that. I expected the Browns to lose a draft pick simply due to the crime committed, regardless of intent. I'm thrilled that didn't happen, and honestly it's a positive break for the franchise when they really needed one.

That said, this year the NFL has been nothing short of inconsistent. I wouldn't expect any case similar to this one judged on the same spectrum, too much of the NFL's punishments seem like the NCAAs: arbitrary and influenced by public perception.

This might be the most hyperbolic, ridiculous things you've ever said.

Not only has Flip spent most of his career in the NFL, but the reason he left SJ State was because the head coach moved on to Colorado.

Referring to Joker and Roper. If other people want to collect "likes" for false optimism, be my guest, I have a shit ton.

The story being known around the league prior to being publicly disclosed is not inconsistent, as IMO it was part of Shanahan's self-serving (and ultimately successful) exit plan to rat out the Browns as a justification for his desire to move.

As for the fight, I am taking the former NFL linebacker. And I suspect that what is needed to ensure that no repeat of the texting incident is for Farmer to move the seat in which he watches games further away from the owner; no "shock collar" is needed.

A new seat is all Farmer needs?

How 'bout some balls and some common sense?

Everyone with half a brain knows this was a cover up but Farmer is a big boy-- he knows right from wrong. For a guy who worships the ground Scott Pioli (one of the most arrogant assholes in football) walks on, I expected better judgement and a tougher stance on a whiny owner. I mean Farmer literally tanked his post-browns career with this texting business. I think it'd be easier to assemble a quality coaching staff (i.e. this year's offensive staff gopher hunt) who are willing to work for Haslam if they knew the GM had their back and kept the owner at a distance but with the Browns, you don't have that luxury and that's a hard obstacle overcome, IMO.

You really think I'm chasing 'likes?"

Either way, I still contend that it is ridiculous that you think they were forced to hire college coaches because of Jimmy.

While I think its nice you are optimistic about Johnny Manziel and optimistic about the front office, I have no problem disagreeing when disagreement is earned.

Look, I can see several of your posts use quotes engage my opinions when they are critical. Be my guest. I still feel comfortable criticizing the front office and ownership when they deserve it. There is a reason the most positive thing said about the Browns offseason from the national people has been an "incomplete" from Polian. It hasn't been a smooth few months. This texting seemed to be unprofessional, and even Farmer now says that he isn't proud of it. I don't know if the Browns will be able to retain quality coaches if this type of draconian top-down management continues. Sorry, no interest in defending it.

I just tend to not subscribe to the "sky is falling" mantra that gets created in the current media landscape.

Yes, they lost Shanahan, but I don't think he had much intention of being here longterm anyways. We were the last team to hire a staff last year, so he kind of had to jump on board if he wanted a gig. If he was so dickless as to be looking for jobs without first talking to his boss, Pettine, then I don't want him or his buddy WR coach here anyways.

And I understand many peoples' desire to move on from Johnny right away after the dismal season he had both on and off the field, but I just don't see why it isn't at least worth giving him an OTA to see if rehab changed him at all.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Oh, the sky is right where it should be. And the Browns front office do more harm than good sometimes. And this whole fiasco that went on when they were still over .500 was just embarassing. But the sky? We cool on that one.

I wasnt really advocating that the Browns lose a pick only that the Tomlin issue wasnt related and it would be alot more severe. to which it was.

If what Grossi said is true, I bet it had a lot to do with the complete lack of an offensive gameplan after the half. The whole second half (3rd quarter especially), the drives were dismal.

I think all of them had to do with the offense, which I think is why Pettine was able to move on from this.

I'm beginning to wonder if Shanahan purposely tanked the gameplan for Johnny's first game as a big fuck you to Farmer ("You want Johnny so badly, here's Johnny and the pistol formation all day long."). That's not to take Johnny off the hook for his terrible play and awful decision making, but I do think there was some sort of pissing contest going on between Shanahan and Farmer that could be easily played off as "Johnny is just terrible and not prepared."

I'd be shocked that a O Coordinator who sees himself as a HC in waiting would be so petty to do that.

It could also mean that Johnny is just an awful NFL QB and that's why he played awful. :conf (11):
