Round 1 Game 1 | Cavs vs Celtics | April 19, 2015 | 3:00 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was there too. It was both.

It was a weak Cleveland playoff crowd. And it was still insane. Can't wait for these playoffs to pick up steam.

The atrocious reffing killed nearly all the crowd momentum in the first quarter, and it took a long time for the vibe to come back around.
I was at the game too, I echo this sentiment. Refs calls killed the vibe. Place was rocking at times for sure and I can only imagine it will just keep getting better.

Those refs were seriously bad today. Wildly inconsistent. Missed so many obvious calls and called so many touch fouls.

Refs only reason we won according to celtics blog.

Ha except for the multiple times they let Moz or Love get absolutely mauled under the basket only to call a touch foul on one of them the very next possession.

Refs don't make up for a 13-point loss.

Brings back memories of High School for me...this is what these people do.

Tommy Heinsohn has poisoned the minds of an entire region.

agree wholeheartedly w/ stereo. it was pretty tame for cleveland playoff game atmosphere.

some reasons, maybe:

  • refs killed momentum coming out of the intros by calling four (?) straight touch fouls on the cavs. was weird.
  • cavs missed some shots coming out of the intro as well.
  • the average fan on the street thinks we should absolutely clobber the Celtics and that they are awful, so people just expect to blow them out.

that said, got pretty loud for the LBJ and Mozgov blocks, the big LBJ dunk, James Jones 3 ball, and Kyrie's buzzer beater, off the top of my head.

one down.

Exactly these. The crowd started hot, but quickly got their vibe killed, to the point where the crowd was booing the refs more than they really had anything to cheer about.

The refs, combined with the lackluster start deflated the building a bit, and it seemed like every time the place wanted to explode, there was another b.s call.

Stereo is right, in that it wasn't the crazy Cleveland playoff crowd, but it definitely had its moments where the place was rocking. Hell, the boos at the refs were pretty damn loud, actually. Plus, a Cleveland playoff crowd at 75% trumps nearly every other teams' at 100%

Another thing to consider regarding the crowd is that these fans pretty much expected playoffs, so even though we haven't been there in 5 years, it was pretty much set in stone. I'd imagine it'll get crazy come ECF time (*knock on wood*).

Also, not sure if you guys noticed, but was it just me or did Love get the biggest ovation out of the Big 3 at the end of the game?

Kevin Love is my player of the game. Kyrie did what is expected, same with LeBron, but the grunt work was done great by Love. He is and will be the X-Factor to our run for a title. Respect it, own it, and get behind him while doing so.

Love is the guy we desperately need to be engaged.

Love shot poorly overall, but he made the dagger, with about 2.5 minutes left. That was huge.

As long he rebounds which consists of one and done for the opponents, spaces the floor which makes him a threat and helps the attackers because weak side defense is staying with him is huge. His passing ability is also big.

All those things surely outweigh his poor shooting. His back will never be 100% this season so I can live with the poor shooting if he's doing everything else so well.

Let's not kid ourselves; the "poor shooting" won't continue.

I know I am late to the party but I just got done watching this game....

Tale of two halves is an understatement, it felt to me they wanted to get the game underway some to get the jitters out of the newbies and go from there.

Of course, James was James. But I want to highlight the 2 postseason rookies...

Irving is scary good. His first playoff game and he drops 30? Outscored James in the process and went 5-9 from 3. I must admit, this cat intrigues me the most. He is every bit as advertised and I honestly don't see a harder duo to guard in the NBA.

Love was shy out there, looked as if he had to get his legs under him but he rebounded until his offensive game came around and in his first playoff contest had a double-double with 19 and 12.

This should be a sweep, this feels like a sweep.
