How can the Reds afford $117 million? How can KC afford $114?

There is no reasonable argument that we should be anywhere under $105 million other than penny pinching. That would put us ranked 20th.

$115 million dollar payroll would be ranked 15th, dead in the middle.

Similar sized midwestern markets are clustered between $105-120 roughly. We aren't even trying to compete at the current level.
...

Market size does not equal revenue. The Indians are generally a bottom 5 team in terms of revenue, regardless of comparable markets. So, I would consider lack of revenue to be a fairly reasonable argument.

There's speculation the Reds can't afford their payroll and flat attendance will result in their operating at a loss. KC just came off a lengthy WS run and attendance spike which resulted in their payroll only reaching into that territory this year.

Every MLB situation is unique. The Indians situation is that there isn't money to spend at a sustainable level right now.

By crippling themselves with an absurd contract for Joey Votto among others, pretty much the reason why they won't be keeping Cueto or have positioned themselves to make other moves which could help their floundering ballclub.

Indians have no business having a middle of the road payroll, I see absolutely no reason why they should given the support they've received.

The constant complaining about the payroll is annoying, but this comment is kind of silly. There is no way they lose money while having that middle of the road payroll, so to say they have no business even having what they have? That's a stretch.

The Indians should publicly release the books if things are as bad as they act like they are financially. I wanna see the books. Someone call up accounting.

And what is wrong with this?

Should they be operating at or near a loss to appease fans which by and large don't care for them?

ole b00b's duct tape-level defense of this organization is as flimsy as ever

I don't ever expect to win a world series with the Dolans owning the team, 2007 was our only shot and they did nothing dramatically the next season to better our cause.

Its been 8 years and what, one playoff berth?

Buster can get us excited and all but it's not happening.

This team needs a Jack Parkman but they just don't want to go over the budget.

Indians fan is a dying breed anyway, were ranked down there with the Marlins in revenue for crying out loud.

If convincing yourself that one player is going to make the difference, go right ahead. You're entitled to that terrible opinion.

Damn so you're admitting the Indians finally suck.

No need to add strawmen to your running list of terrible posts in these threads.

I didn't mean it to sound like I was saying they should be operating at a loss, because they shouldn't. I was just saying I have to imagine they're making substantial profits with that payroll you just advocated being lower based on fan support/attendance.

I obviously dont have info to back that up, I'm just assuming.

Somebody on Twitter posted that this year's team and the 2013 Indians both started 5-9.

So.

Yay.

I'll blow my brains out if I have to watch another 1 game Wild Card.

What will you do if you have to watch 148 more games knowing they'll end up 10 games out frm the WC play-in?
