ECF: Cavs 4 - Hawks 0

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just something I'm observing about this one game at least: we're not going gaga over beating the Hawks. We're all happy, but it's just not that visceral, gloating kind of thing we had going on each time we'd eat the Bulls. We'll have to wait until some Hawks broadcaster or player is stupid enough to say something derogatory, or something happens where a Hawks player does something dirty I guess. It's nice to have a "civil" series as it were, but it's not really quite as fun...

I sort of agree with this, except for the not quite as fun. Oh, it's fun winning games in the ECF.. but I understand your greater point. Plus I do not feel as though the broadcast last night, or the media coverage, is one sided any longer like it quite obviously was in the Bulls series, so I don't have that seething hatred of that aspect of things either. That Chicago series was unlike anything I've experienced as a sports fan from any and all angles...

I do believe I can learn to hate Teague. I'm already well on my way.

There were a couple broadcasts where it seemed like the announcers didn't talk about the Cavs players once during the game. It was all about Rose and Noah, etc. No balance at all. But, the TNT broadcasters are just terrible. Not that the guys last night were much better, but Marv at least gets up for good plays on both sides of the ball.

Teague definitely has that air of someone I could hate, but not because he's good. Just mainly because I sense some dirty play lurking if things really start to go south for the Hawks here.

I'm actually surprised at the amount that Atlanta fans/media are already chirping about the refs. The Cavs had 14 free throws going into the last 18 seconds of the game. So, what? The Hawks never foul? They are going to meltdown when the Cavs actually get help from the refs and LeBron takes 12 or so free throws.

Also, what is it with teams running in front of LeBron while he's driving and thinking it's a charge? You have to actually beat the defender to the spot, not be skipping and sliding into a flop.

More moving screens calls against the Hawks already than against the Bulls all last series.
Now to get some three-second calls when Teague and Millsap drive into the lane and then spin on their pivot foot for 4.5 seconds.

I think a big break for the Cavs this series is that Schroder, a guy who's quickness is going to kill them, isn't a very good decision maker.

It's funny to listen to people talk about how very seriously important it is for Kyle Korver to get on track. The guy averaged 12 points a game on 8 shots this year. In the playoffs he's averaging 11 on 9. The guy is the absolute definition of a role player, yet analysts are acting like he's some offensive force that needs to be unleashed.

Number of times in the season Kyle Korver scored 20 or more points: 7
Number of times in the playoffs Kyle Korver scored 20 or more points: 2

As far as I'm concerned he's ahead of the curve. I understand it's about efficiency, but he isn't an all-star; his entire career he's played worse in the playoffs, just like 99% of roleplayers in the history of the league.

Good post. The sheer amount of outrage from the entire Hawks bench and their fans on that attempted charge attempt by I think Carroll was hilarious to me. He wasn't even CLOSE to being set, yet they are all acting like it was some outrageously bad call. I think the Hawks had themselves convinced from jump that LeBron was going to get all sorts of calls.. frankly the opposite is true. They even tried getting in his head by throwing little elbows and shit... what right do you have to act outraged when refs let you do THAT?

.
Iv said that LeBron charge thing all season. Losers know they cant defend him so the hot thing to do now is to just slide in front of him and get ran over really bad. Sell it so the ref HAS to call it a charge. With that technique I could guard Michael Jordan.

Also I saw Delly get caught on a Perro Antic moving screen for a couple seconds and I was just looking like wow

You're talking about the Antic play, and you're judging it off the replay. At full speed, LeBron clearly lowers his shoulder (when slowed down, it was to drive tight against Antic) and puts Antic on his ass. The defender doesn't have to be set if you're lowering a shoulder, because they're given the same right to that space you are. Also, when he put Millsap on the floor before he got stuffed, that was a pretty generous no call.

The refs also gave Millsap a foul (makeup) when JR Smith railroaded him after someone the previous possession horsecollar'd Shump and they called a travel. Probably the most egregious makeup call of the night.

Refs were better than the last two series, still not that great.

I am talking about the Antic play, yes - and you're right about an offensive player not being able to lower his shoulder, of course. (which, btw, is a tactic that Milsap tried more than once last night with no call). I, perhaps being a homer, didn't notice any shoulder into Antic but that certainly might have happened.

Misconception of the rule. An illegal screen exists only when the screener is moving in the opposite direction the person he is screening is going, the screener is initiating contact, or the screener is extending something to create an unfair advantage( knee, hip, etc).

Perfectly legal for Antic to have a "multi-second" screen if Delly runs into him, and Antic moves with the push, as long as Delly initiated the original contact.

If I could find it, I'd show you. It should have been a no-call, to be completely honest. LeBron dipped his shoulder (which is something I was always taught when a big guy switches, because the tight driveby is way harder for them to defend), and Antic got into the shoulder in the stomach. I'll take the call, though.

And agree on Millsap, but I really can't remember one where he used his shoulder to clear space.

Man, Hawks fans might be more delusional than Bulls fans.

I went over to their message board and posters are trying to convince others that Bazemore getting more minutes might be a blessing in disguise.

In Carroll's previous 10 games he averaged 15.1 PPG, 5.9 REB, 2.8 AST, 1 STL and shot 57% from the floor. Somehow replacing Kent Bazemore with that is a "blessing in disguise".

For context, Bazemore is getting around 20 min a game in his last 10 and has posted 6.3 PPG, 3.8 REB, 1.6 AST on 36.8% from the floor.

Carroll was shooting 40% from 3 this season and 42.5% from 3 in the playoffs. Bazemore shot 36% from 3 in the regular season (on just 1.8 attempts) and is down to 20% in the post-season (on 1.5 attempts).

They're probably just not past the denial stage yet but sheesh......losing Carroll's floor spreading is really going to kill them. Maybe Bazemore can play some decent defense but shrinking the floor even more is going to make it so hard on Atlanta on offense.

Win game 2 and take their spirits. Reality will start to set in.

Obviously JR isn't going to do that every game. We'll need some other guys stepping up in Game 2. If we get back to Cleveland 2-0 this series is over, though.

I'm not.

Fans everywhere think they get a raw deal from everyone. That includes the incessant complaining on this board about the referees and commentators. The Hostile Media Effect is real and I wish everyone would take the time to understand it and reflect on how their biases affect their perceptions. That's not to say that we never get jobbed by some calls. Rather, if the referees are bad, they are generally bad for everyone, and collective fanbases only see the calls that go against them. There is no conspiracy. Games come down to our players executing, not the referees.

Now the commentators? Those are the worst complaints of all. They have literally no effect on the game, but for some reason half of game threads are taken up with complaining about them. Step your game up, people.
