I take it you've never seen an NBA player's contract before.

So when Robert Griffin played on a torn ACL in the playoffs, how do you think that went down? The "medical staff" said "yea, sure, run him out there, should be ok."

I'm trying to get inside your mind about how you think this all works.

I'm not familiar with that situation so I don't know.

Oddly enough, the same Dr. James Andrews was on the redskins sideline during that game, and apparently gave them the green light to trot rg3 out there.

How do you think an NBA team works? The Doctor says "he can't play" and that's the final decision? Like, if Blatt decided to play Kyrie and Kyrie agreed to it, there would be some violation of the NBA rules and the Cavs would have to forfeit the game?

Who says it would be a violation of anything more than common sense and human decency? Oh and potentially an individual contract. Regardless, why can't you imagine that the team leaves it up to the medical staff to decide if a player is fit to play?

Keep sitting him

We're up 2-0. If we can sweep somehow sit him for another 12 days, it would be incredible. Oh yeah, and the finals are 12 days away.

We need Kyrie at as much as full strength as we can get him for the Finals, especially if we play the Warriors. Sit him now.

Do you know of some rule specific to the NBA that says "if a medical physician says a player shouldn't play then that player is barred from playing?" I don't.

The only recent rule change that I can think of has been related to concussions. Other than that, players have played against doctors wishes before and will continue to do so.

In these playoffs, we have played 398 minutes with Irving on court and 178 minutes without Irving on court.

WITH Irving OFF court, our defensive rating is 89.1, equivalent to the best defense ever (I know you can't straight compare DRtgs due to overall league style of play due to rules, etc., but the 2003 Spurs had a rating of 94.1 and a bunch of teams from the '73-'74 season had lower ratings). Put another way, at our current playoff pace, that would mean we would allow 82.6 points a game.

WITH Irving ON court, our defensive rating is 106.9 which would be about 21st in the league this year.

With Irving off the court, the Cavs are 17.8 points per 100 possessions BETTER on defense.

With Irving on court,
the Cavs are +4.5 per 100 possessions.

With Irving off court,
the Cavs are +19.9 per 100 possessions.

Our defense is tremendous with Kyrie off court and the sample size is not small. At this point, the Cavs must be seriously considering bring Kyrie off the bench as a scoring threat because when he starts, the opposition goes right at him in pick and roll and builds leads. The opposition is scoring 47% of the time it puts Kyrie in pick and roll and runs a play and drawing shooting fouls an additional 7% of the time.

^ where do you get these stats, can you also show the offense. And can you show Delly's numbers since Kyrie sitting means Delly starting.

basketball-reference doesn't give all of the numbers you do, and calculates things slightly differently, but it shows Kyrie ORtg is 120 in the playoffs, is DRtg is 104. By comparison Delly's ORtg in 103 and his DRtg is 108.

We can beat Golden state, should we advance, without Kyrie. Our perimeter defense is the best of the playoffs and it would only be hampered by a hobbled or halfway healthy Irving who isn't a good defender even when he is 100%.

Do you want his scoring? Sure, but Kyrie needs more than just 2 weeks rest. He sat an entire week only to reaggrivate the injury the next game. This team is capable of hanging its hat on defense and allowing LeBron to take care of the rest. I think that's our best course of action for a team like Golden State.

Well yeah, Kyrie has been on one leg for most of the playoffs going against the opponent's starters.

How much he plays/when he plays should be determined by how healthy he is. If he's near 100% for The Finals, he'll certainly be back to his normal role of starting and playing big minutes...as he should.

If he's hobbling around like he was in Game 1, he shouldn't be playing at all. As you mentioned, our defense with Delly has been too good to warrant Kyrie with one leg playing over him.

He isn't going to be close to 100% without a few months rest. We're a better team right now with him off the floor. You don't want to compromise perimeter defense against the Warriors. That's absolutely critical and we've seen that against a good perimeter team like the Hawks. Shump, JR, and Delly are doing a hell of a job.

I like our chances with Irving off the floor.
