In these playoffs, we have played 398 minutes with Irving on court and 178 minutes without Irving on court.

WITH Irving OFF court, our defensive rating is 89.1, equivalent to the best defense ever (I know you can't straight compare DRtgs due to overall league style of play due to rules, etc., but the 2003 Spurs had a rating of 94.1 and a bunch of teams from the '73-'74 season had lower ratings). Put another way, at our current playoff pace, that would mean we would allow 82.6 points a game.

WITH Irving ON court, our defensive rating is 106.9 which would be about 21st in the league this year.

With Irving off the court, the Cavs are 17.8 points per 100 possessions BETTER on defense.

With Irving on court,
the Cavs are +4.5 per 100 possessions.

With Irving off court,
the Cavs are +19.9 per 100 possessions.

Our defense is tremendous with Kyrie off court and the sample size is not small. At this point, the Cavs must be seriously considering bring Kyrie off the bench as a scoring threat because when he starts, the opposition goes right at him in pick and roll and builds leads. The opposition is scoring 47% of the time it puts Kyrie in pick and roll and runs a play and drawing shooting fouls an additional 7% of the time.

All interesting points, and there's certainly a case to be made that an injured Kyrie may hurt more than help.

I just find it kind of humorous that a guy with your screenname is talking about sitting a PG because he's no good on the defensive end.

I don't think he felt better but I think he is having more positive thoughts about this all. It cannot be a coincidence that after visiting Dr. Andrews and the slight modification he proposed to his treatment that Irving saw something in that slight change that has him more positive about the situation than say after game 1.

He isn't going to be close to 100% without a few months rest. We're a better team right now with him off the floor. You don't want to compromise perimeter defense against the Warriors. That's absolutely critical and we've seen that against a good perimeter team like the Hawks. Shump, JR, and Delly are doing a hell of a job.

I like our chances with Irving off the floor.

Generally bench guys are not as good as your starters, which is why the starters start and the bench guys....don't. But that doesn't mean the bench guys don't play a necessary role. So even if the team isn't as good with an injured Kyrie starting, we could still be better off being able to bring him off the bench than not have him at all.

Not if he can't close out on jumpers like I've seen throughout these playoffs. It's too critical at this point in the game and we're too close.

Irving has looked hurt even when he says he feels great. I'd rather not play an injured player just to play him.

Cavs org. should tell all the media that Kyrie is going to play in game 3. Then right before tip off, we should say it was a game time decision and decided to rest him instead, just to mess with the Hawks heads. That would be fun.

Who he heck is this 80 follower Twitter guy and how is he supposed to be a better expert than Dr James Andrews.
