Is there such a thing as the Players Union or am I imagining it?

And who exactly is going to shut them up? The owners......which would then imply the owners are then in on it.

You know, when the Bulls fans were bitching about Rose not getting to the line for like two plus games I don't recall that many bleeding hearts on here suggesting the series was fixed in our favor..............what happened?
he was settling for jump shots. almost 100% of the time.

hard to find exact numbers, but most concrete thing i saw was in a finals series a few years ago, which received about an 8-9 share, a 30 second spot cost 400k.

inflation, twice the viewership.. 1mil a spot? 5 spots per commercial break, another handful for halftime and pregame..

4 full time outs per team = 40 million, 2 20 seconds per team = 4 million.. plus other commercial breaks obv.

these numbers can be off, clearly, but is it unreasonable to estimate 50 milion dollars for a game 7?

The refs had it all wrong. They were screwing the Cavs over in game 5 assuming that the Cavs can force a game 7 by winning in Cleveland. what they didn't think about was the fact that the Cavs might not have the energy to play a great game 6, especially after a close game 5. The NBA just cost themselves their game 7 by holding their whistles everytime LeBron drew contact at the basket.

You guys act like the billions on the line in TV money and legal/illegal gambling matter. If NBA games are fixed people would be complaining and at least one ref would have been charged...

I had the Cavs +9.5 and on the moneyline. I'm not sure how many minutes the Cavs were down 10 but they were at the final buzzer.

edit: im assuming sar asm. its late.

I wish we could see a game where only flagrants were called, nothing else. Imagine LBJ just man handling everybody and Shaq would have about 6 championships to boot.

NBA should have forced Joey into retirement after the Duncan incident instead of just suspending him.
I really do not get how a 62 year old Joey (or hell any 62 year old) is allowed to the best athletes in the world. The NBA needs to set a policy that once you hit a certain age you need to go through a yearly physical. Fuck this tenure shit. How do you expect a 62 year old to see and make the proper calls, especially when he is making the calls from half court?

Its not whether he is making the proper calls or not, in my opinion, it's the fact that he almost always shows some sort of bias in the games he officiates in. I have been watching this league for nearly 20 years now, I can't count how many I think he actually had a significant role in the outcome. I am not saying he is on the take or anything, I just think his high attitude on himself has been hurting his ability to call games effectively.

I was coming here to post this article, read its very interesting and to further your point, here is a snippet...

He says refs are small-minded men with big egos “who resent the fact they don’t get the recognition the players do. They think the fans come to see them. So they hotdog it, like Joey Crawford.” That’s a ref Donaghy reportedly once punched out in a fit of anger. “If a player’s ready to shoot a free throw, Crawford will grab the ball from him and rush over to the scorer’s table and begin screaming about something.” That way, he knows the cameras will follow him.
