#24: Tyus Jones - PG - Duke University (Traded to T'Wolves for #31 & #36)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Reminds me way too much of another former slow-footed ACC PG who led his team to a title...Kendall Marshall. Was pissed when we drafted him, relieved when we traded him.

There's nothing slow-footed about Jones.

And, um, Kendall Marshall never led UNC to any title. Pre-season, in-season, or post-season.

Tyus is a winner, a great shooter, and a great passer. who doesn't make mistakes.

What the Cavs need from a Kyrie backup is someone who can shoot, score and distribute without turning it over, and Jones does all 4.

What we need from Kyrie's backup is the ability to play for a contender. A rookie cant do that, especially a late first. I like Tyrus, but he is 2 or 3 years away from contributing,

We need a vet to come in and play backup pg.

And I'm sure he won MOP in both the NCAA regional AND the final four because he 'was a highly thought of in high school [sic].'

Cavs will greatly regret not keeping him as a backup.

But, hey -- at least they got a Turkish teenager who'll never play in the NBA out of it. SCORE!
Shabaz Napier was a winner with the same accolades too, funny how he also slipped into the first round, and also happens to not be a good player at all.

Never said he couldn't shoot, said he doesn't shoot well enough to make up for his gigantic deficiencies athletically, and the same goes for his passing.

Keep spitting hyperbole about being a winner and performing in the clutch tho.

If only 'Tyrus' could handle pressure. Oh wait, he just took over and hit huge shots at the end of the game against:

1) Wisconsin (twice)
2) UNC (twice)
3) UVA (at UVA)

How does one slip into the first round?

I'll hang up and listen.

It was the year before, I changed it before you replied to me.

And yes, there is. The biggest knock on Jones is his lack of burst and first step, which has killed many a PG who aren't elite class ball handlers or gifted with the ability to be a knock down shooter, which Jones is neither. He is going to get roasted on the defensive side of the ball.

And for reference, Kendall Marshall's combine number for the agility drill: 12.03 seconds. Jones: 11.89. Marshall's for the full court sprint: 3.23 seconds. Jones: 3.32 seconds. Marshall's lack of burst had him out of the league in 3 years...we'll see with Jones.

I get it, you like Jones, but I just don't see it with him being able to succeed in the NBA as a heavy minutes contributor, unless he miraculously finds some athleticism. Maybe Wiggins and LaVine will transfer some to him.

Yes, performance in the NCAA tourney always equals immediate success in the NBA.

We get it, you like tyrus, but he wasn't going to be a viable backup pg for a few years. He will look good backup up for Minny as they once again miss the playoffs.

But he does have talent, we just don't have time for 1 and done players at this point. Our window is now, not in 3 years.

Hence the selection of a dude from Turkey who won't be in the league until I'm, like, 50...

I don't give a shit how "clutch" you are, or how you "perform in the brightest lights"...if you can't guard anyone in the NBA, you won't make it. We've seen a lot of people flame out of the league for that very reason.

Jones was the MVP of the Duke team for the entire year. Duke's production, on both offense and defense, was better with him on the floor than it was with Okafor on the floor this season.
