Atlanta is not done or screwed 12 hours into FA.

They basically traded Carroll for Splitter.

That's it.

Laker's didn't make a strong pitch, you say?

"So we got this guy named Kobe. He's awesome. He will shoot 40 times a game and probably be an asshole to you but he's a proven winner so you must do everything he says. We got this other guy...his name is Randle...he was a BEAST in college but he suffered a minor setback last year tearing his achilles. We also got this new guy named Russell. He played SG in college but we are going to make him a PG. He has yet to play a single minute in the NBA but we know Kobe will be a great mentor to him, like he was to Smush Parker. Oh yeah, and remember LINSANITY? We still need to resign him but that shit was so cool in NYC, amirite? Everyone else on our roster you probably didn't even know play in the NBA. Also, our coach is great at tanking. He tanked so hard he got the Cavs 3, count em, 3 first picks in four years!"

I feel pretty good knowing this is what Love is going to hear.

It's also all stuff that Love and his agent would know before agreeing to the meeting in the first place. Love has more of a connection to L.A. than LMA did, and LMA has more of a connection to Texas than Love has to Ohio.

I'm not saying he's leaving -- I still think he comes back. But I'm hedging my bets if that meeting with LA actually goes ahead, because it's kind of a dick move on the part of Love and his agent if the Cavs have already put a max offer on the table.

I mean, what's the point of not taking the Cavs' offer if that's where you intended to be all along?

I feel like Cavs want Love to take 5.

Love wants to take 1 and 1.

I think the Lakers noise is about Love getting what he wants rather than actually going to LA.

There's probably more to meetings than we know. Love goes to their meeting, here's their pitch, enjoys a bit of LA nightlife, comes back to his hotel room and finds a bunch of Laker girls... Then thanks them for their time and signs with Cleveland. It's a party for you on someone elses dime.

Continuity is what made them so good.

Now they're going to potentially have to break in two new starters, have Korver coming off injuries and Antic (17 mins a game in the playoffs) leaving.

Typically, losing 2 of your top 4 players is never good, no matter who you bring back.

Posturing on Love's part so we don't make him a glorified "stretch 4" for another year.

Completely agree. Cavs need to hold their ground and get him to take the 5 though. Spurs got Kawhi to accept the 5 I think the Cavs can do the same.

Here's the thing. Even if Kevin gets 5, with the new salary cap, his contract would still be good in terms of trade value. If he wanted to leave town, we'd easily be able to ship him to his destination of choice.

It also makes sense for Love to talk with the LAL about 2016 / 2017 as that conversation might be a factor in Love's 5 vs 1and 1.

If Love wants 1 and 1 there is nothing the Cavs can do except give that to him.

Also Love could tell LAL that he will come next year. I suspect the Lakers wouldn't think he would Boozer them, and of course since Love is an UFA he has to talk with them now or wait another year.

If I'm Love's agent I'd advise the 1 and 1 to give him another year & see how Cleveland goes. That also is better financially as long as he doesn't suffer a career-limiting injury.

if we get nothing for Haywood's contract I'm going to cry myself to sleep. How does pop do that shit without giving up assets

They actually traded Milsap and Carroll for Splitter if they have no ambition to at least match the offer the Magic presented Milsap. Doesn't matter if they are even willing to match if Milsap doesn't want to come back.

If anything we'll get rid of it for a trade exception to use later down the road. The Haywood contract isn't something that's likely to be dealt within the first 12 hours of free agency unless another team has no other choice.

Holy fuck, where is this coming from. I'm no blind optimist, anybody on here will tell you that, but FA literally just started 12 hours ago and 2 hours ago Windhorst said the Cavs already have numerous options with the Haywood contract and will absolutely get something done. But I forgot, people only hear the negative shit from Windhorst so they can make fat jokes, right?
