If the ORL/ATL sign and trade is completed, Harris is an upgrade over Milsap at this point. While losing Carroll hurts, they have other wing players to fill his role in Scott and Bazemore. Splitter fills a hole in their front line who is versed in their system.

ATL is really not taking steps back under this scenario.

They already said they'd match that contract...

that was before they took on splitter's $8+ million salary and lost Carroll. It would basically take the rest of their cap to keep Milsap. It would be a stupid allocation of resources.

Carroll at $15mil a year is one of the worst contracts I've ever seen, new cap or not. He's going to take a gigantic statistical dive on that Toronto team. Take all the Hawks regular season stats from this season and throw them in the garbage like LeBron did with their entire team in the ECF
Doesn't bode well for our deals

Smith and Shimpert both deserve 12 mil plus if Carroll can get 15 and Kris Middleton can get 70 mil total

What is Love making in a 1+1, then a 5 year if in LA vs signing here?

Cleveland: 5 years, 110 million.
Other teams: 4 years, 80 million.

The 1 + 1 isn't really an option in LA...as it still only nets him a 4 year deal.

Players eligible to be signed under the Bird Exception are said to have "Bird Rights." Players must spend three years with a team to earn full Bird Rights, two years for "Early Bird Rights."

We retained Kevin's Bird Rights because we acquired his original contract via trade. Free Agency wipes that clean if he moves to a new team.

Did anybody really think that Pop, the mastermind will just dump valuable players on to our lap for nothing? It was nice to dream about I guess. Don't know why I believed in that. Pop expects to face us in the finals, he couldnt live that deal in the long run.
Exactly. While the trade arguably made the most sense for the Spurs from a financial standpoint, there were too many other factors that made it a pipe dream.

Smith will get 6-8 and Shump will get Danny Green money. Cavs in a great position to just bring back an already lethal roster and let a few health breaks on our side take us to the two more wins we needed for a title.

We would have bird rights, but not restricted. And why would he be stupid? He already gambled on himself and won, this would be just one more gamble.

he would be stupid because everything played out perfectly for him this season for him to excel. chances are he doesn't put up the same kind of numbers next season, with the cavs having mozgov all year, and AV potentially staying fully healthy, not to mention not having a gimpy love with a bad back.

So, not only would he be losing out on salary this year, he'd be running a real risk of lowering his value on the market, regardless of how much cap room exists.

Ok. Just came online. WTF happened today?

A summary would be nice.

Thanks!

Laker's didn't make a strong pitch, you say?

"So we got this guy named Kobe. He's awesome. He will shoot 40 times a game and probably be an asshole to you but he's a proven winner so you must do everything he says. We got this other guy...his name is Randle...he was a BEAST in college but he suffered a minor setback last year tearing his achilles. We also got this new guy named Russell. He played SG in college but we are going to make him a PG. He has yet to play a single minute in the NBA but we know Kobe will be a great mentor to him, like he was to Smush Parker. Oh yeah, and remember LINSANITY? We still need to resign him but that shit was so cool in NYC, amirite? Everyone else on our roster you probably didn't even know play in the NBA. Also, our coach is great at tanking. He tanked so hard he got the Cavs 3, count em, 3 first picks in four years!"

I feel pretty good knowing this is what Love is going to hear.

We will be forced to bid against ourselves for TT so he doesnt sign the QO and become unrestricted next year when the free agent money will be crazy.

We are not out of the woods yet on TT.

That's a good point, but I'm not sure how the Cavs feel about that. If TT plays at the Q.O., that's only about $6.8M for 2015-2016. That's a hell of a lot less than $15M or so if Carroll is the benchmark, and saves a ton of tax money. And while that number would go up the following year, the Cavs would also be a year closer to ditching Andy's salary, which would save them quite a bit.

According to Windy/Rotoworld, TT was looking for a deal of at least $13M/year. So okay, we give him that. Still better than DeMarre Carroll, and much less than the dreaded max. Because if he's holding out for max or near max, I don't think anyone else is going to come close to that, and I'd make him play for the QO if that's the alternative.

Milsap will be back. They just lost Demarre to an overpay. They'll be a 60 win team still next year.

They'll sign Millsap if he decides to take a lesser contract. I don't think they have the space to offer him a contract bigger than that 20 million a year deal Orlando is offering him right now after absorbing Splitter's deal into their cap space.

I feel like when I left last night, this thread was like 58 pages long. I came in today and it's in the 80's. "WTF" indeed! I guess that's the first day of free agency for ya!
