Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If LB didn't come back, I think Tristan would have been dealt.

But, LB coming back, and Tristan represented by Rich Paul, I understand why they didn't trade him at the time. Given they wanted to do everything to secure LB coming back at that point.

Maybe they should have tried to move him at the deadline though. Really curious if the Cavs wanted to trade Tristan, but didn't in fear of how LB would feel about it. Hard to say how the Cavs truly feel about Tristan, given he's tied to LB, and that changes the dynamic a lot.

But in hindsight, we should have traded him, especially if LB might not have liked it, but would have at least accepted it. This is Tristan Thompson, not Wade, right?
See what loyalty gets you?

Bent over.

94m or else bro... loyalty.

I'm not saying we have to sign Ed fucking Davis. I'm saying that he was properly paid and that an Ed Davis comparable player doesn't deserve to be paid like Kyrie Irving. Ed Davis' deal is a lot closer to Tristan's fair market value than what Tristan is asking for or has been offered.

Because he is. He's depth. He's energy off the bench. He's not a front line player. He's not Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving or LeBron James. Those guys are irreplaceable. You could argue that Mozgov due to the rarity of his skill set is close to irreplaceable. There are high energy, garbageman PFs all over this league. TT happens to be one of the better ones but the his replacement value is not that high.

Also, as others have pointed out your whole premise of signing TT to a max deal this year or having to replace him with a minimum salary player is a false premise. We'll have the TPE to make trades with, we'll have the MMLE and honesty, who knows what assets we'll have next year because other trades can and most likely will be made. Ed Davis and Hassan Whiteside are two guys last year that were available for the vet min. David West was available this year for the vet min. David Lee was traded for a sack of deflated basketballs.

This team can survive without Tristan Thompson.

That's assuming that him leaving doesn't cause other problems. Especially with having to deal with a pissed off LeBron James.

I definitely don't think Tristan is worth what he's asking for but that's not how leverage works. His camp has the power here and as Windy said he's going to get bigger/better offers next summer.

When Love went down he stepped up big time. It's funny how that just gets swiped away and reduced like it didn't happen.

Windy talking out of his ass. Wes Matthews got offered that money because Wes Matthews is a much better player.

Enes Kanter found someone to give him an offer sheet. Why couldn't Tristan? Portland needs a PF these days...what's the problem? Why didn't they throw an offer sheet his way if he's worth so damn much?

But if TT is the journeymen that some argued, what could we really have gotten for the guy anyway?

And he think we should just give in and overpay him. :chuckle: WTF would we do that, when no one wants to pay him that kind of money.

Windy bringing nothing but wind.

It's too bad we didnt offer Bismack Biyombo a deal. Dude would put up very similar numbers as TT next to LBJ, Kyrie, Love, and Moz for 1/15th the price

And I don't think we're saying Tristan sucks. In fact I've said the opposite. But with love and Mozgov as our frontline and knowing this exact situation was going to happen we should have traded him when we had the chance.

If he signs for the QO then we can't trade him. Amd if he signs for the max he becomes untradeable anyway.

It's a horrible position to be in if you're the cavs but you've no one to blame but yourself.

He's a MUCH better player no doubt but he suffered a major potentially career changing injury. And he turned down more money from the Kings.

I think he was just trying to explain why the fear of injury isn't what it used to be in regards to playing on a one year deal.

I don't know what his value is. But it was a hell of lot better than what it's going to be, if we give in and pay him his crazy contract demand.

We'll never be able to trade him at a max deal.

This is guy, I think most of us feel isn't a starter in this league. Paying a bench player a max contract? Has there ever been a more ridiculous contract?

I think Tristan is a good player off the bench, but those guys aren't worth max deals. I don't care how high the cap is going up. This is robbery.

And I'd rather lose Tristan for nothing at this point than sign him to that deal. He's unmovable at that price. Within 10 minutes of signing a deal like that he'll be looked at as overpaid. I guess a team MIGHT be willing to throw 20 million a year at him next year, but they'll regret it within the first month of the first year of his deal. I'd rather not be that team.

What's the worst that can happen? He signs the QO and bugs out? That would be GOOD news as far as I'm concerned. I don't think Griffin is so stupid to tie up so much money on a backup PF and that's what he is.

Reading the rumors... cavs organization should feel disrespected by their camp not the way around we offered over 80 mil...smh

Remember when that guy Gourimoko said "we better trade Tristan while we have the chance, he's going to demand a fortune and we'd be better off getting value while we can."

Remember how many folks said .. "Noo.. He's not going to get anything more than $12M!"

Lol...

Hope this is a lesson to many of you out there. Don't get emotionally attached to these players. We should've traded Tristan at last years deadline before all of this happened. A backup specialist big on a $94M contract...

fuck outta here...

The problem with this is we have no idea what his value was around the league. I'm guessing most teams would have been terrified at the ridiculous asking price Rich Paul has made up in his mind for the value of his client.

There's not a ton you can do when an agent decides his client is worth way more than he actually is because, I can only assume, he doesn't have that many clients and has to cash in somehow.

Agreed. It's a horrible contract and there is no basis to believe other teams would offer him similar money this year or the next. We'd be stuck with him.
