Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bleacher Report is claiming that a source says TT will only play for the Cavs beyond this upcoming season if they give him a longterm max deal for this season.

If this is true, not sure it's good negotiating on TT's part unless he truly wants to leave.

They are claiming Toronto will pay TT the max , which is possible maybe even more likely now that they got Jonas V. on a decent deal.

That said, I don't see LeBron leaving if we lose TT. What can LeBron really say? He's leaving the Cavs because we refused to max out a role player?
If that’s the stance Tristan is really taking, you have to assume that he doesn’t WANT to really stay here. Maybe he really is just dying to play in Toronto or something. If that’s the case there really is no point expending a lot of energy on him, as he isn’t all that invested in the team.

i remembered one episod of end a regular season game - on the bench tt hits in the love's face - tt has bad influence on command chemistry -trade him - + we'll see moz at end of game

Why would TT want to leave?? He plays on a contender, almost 30 minutes a game. He was in the finals just a few months ago. He plays with a legend - Lebron James. He is being supposedly offered 80 mil, which is a lot. I mean, come on...

Check thread once daily, should just look at title and be done with it.
Guys' I know this is summer but come on, we can't negotiate the deal here, don't think it is even being negotiated in the FO.

Probably DG decided he will live with TT signing the QO and either he does great this season and we lose him or he does ok and we lose him.
Either way, the thread really ran its course, I think every scenario has been covered apart from aliens signing TT for the max , now that is covered :cha (40):

Its a tactic by Rich Paul and I don't believe its a max or nothing for a second.

I think this has gone a bit far, but its Rich Paul trying to make a name for himself at other's expense.

Where's the 'What?' button?

Was reading the Raptors forum in real Gm. None there want any piece of TT if he is demanding any where close to a max.
One poster raises a very good question. If the reports are true that Raptors want to sign TT close to max next season, why didn't they offer it this year. Since the cavs are not willing to give it, wouldn't the Raptors be getting him an year earlier?
I think the rumors are just rich Pauls negotiation tactics

Let me run something by you guys just to see if it seems even remotely feasible. Not saying this is likely but just hear me out.

Lets say Rich Paul isn't bluffing when he says Tristan won't sign with the Cavs long term unless the Cavs give Tristan the max. Let's also presume that Tristan is receptive to playing in his hometown Toronto as a starter. Not necessarily saying that he'd prefer that to Cleveland but perhaps it's his 2nd choice of ideal cities to play in. Let's also presume that the Cavs have zero interest in TT at the max salary, whether it's a max salary signed this year or one signed a year from now. Their decision is to QO him and get a nice cheap one year rental out of him if they can't trade him.

Is it possible that the Cavs would do a sign and trade to Toronto? Tristan gets his big bucks and lands at what is rumored to be a top destination for him, and Toronto would get Tristan at a lower max salary than if they pursue him on the open market next year, since the salary cap hasn't gone up yet. It would also be a sure thing for Toronto, they wouldn't have to wonder if Tristan might change his mind or maybe make an 11th hour decision to sign for the max with a different team. They would also get him sooner, and if they believe Tristan makes them a better team, then that seems like another incentive to act now. I don't know what a max deal gets Tristan if he signs it now vs 10 months from now but I'm guessing it would be a substantial savings for the Raptors, maybe 5 mil per year. The Cavs lose the 1 year of Tristan at the QO price, but at least they get assets in return and would not lose TT for nothing. It would also remove any risk of him holding out or sulking because he would be moved to Toronto.

Bobby Marks put out a tweet saying that TT's trade value on a sign and trade is 50% of the contract value:

So this would mean we maybe get 10 million or so in trade value in return, but could probably take in more by tacking on a TPE. Perhaps Toronto would give us two of these players:

Bismack Biyombo
Patrick Patterson
Luis Scola
James Johnson
Terrence Ross

I'm not advocating for this trade, just throwing it out there as something to consider and to see if it's even logistically possible (the cap experts here maybe can help me out).

Will do Terrence Ross/James Johnson Bismack Biyombo/Patrick Patterson and will never look back provided that it is possible and TT would ask for a Raptors trade.

Bobby Marks is wrong. If a hypothetical trade was to take place. first Thompson would need to consent to have the qo removed. The qo then would need to revoked making Thompson a free agent. at this point a sign in traded can be done with a max of 125% of whatever he signs for.

We have spent a couple of hundred pages discussing something that at the end of the day doesn't matter. TT is not the difference between us winning a Ship or not. Yes he is a role player and an above average offensive rebounder...thats it...he stays, he goes, we pay him or we don't...makes little difference...we will win or lose the title this year based on Love; KI; LeBron and Moz staying healthy...everybody is a nice to have not a must have...someone wake me when the season starts:party smiley 004:
