2015 Cleveland Browns Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Overall, the text message article was moderately funny though.

At best. Couple A's, handful of B+, handful of D's and a hell of a lot of C's.

Anything associated with Shanahan was funny. Anything associated with the wife was weak. The Pett stuff was on and off.

Overall it gets a C+, which is better than any work @natedagg had done until "."

I haven't really paid attention this, but has Flip used the ZBS at all this year? Wasn't he supposed to keep that for some "continuity"? Honestly, I haven't seen anything that resembled the offense he was supposed to run. Do you guys think this is just because he's a rookie signal caller, Pettine trying to influence the in game play calling, no talent to run it? Why haven't we seen any Bibbs yet but Malcolm Johnson sees the field?
People blow up the zone blocking scheme into a mystical run saving scheme just like they do the 'west coast offense'

Even last year we had power running plays. Every team has a counter play. Every team has a power play. Every team has a trap play. every team has a stretch. Every team has a stretch. Every team has at least a few zone runs in their playbook. Having a good running game isn't predicated on what system you run, but who is running it. Yeah, some guys are better suited for power running plays than others, but everything is a mixture of systems nowadays.

I don't care if you're running a zone blocking play, a counter, I don't even care if you give the runningback a machete. With lack of effort like this it isn't hard to see why we can't run the ball. It all starts with accountability. If I was Pettine I would have replayed that play over and over again in film study and asked Dray if that is the type of effort he gives to his football brothers? If that is how he wants to represent himself on the field? If he would be proud to watch that with his kid?

No, then pick up your God damn play. There is a difference between missing a block and immediately springing up, being flat footed, and not even laying a hand on the LB. And don't give me the 'oh but he's a TE and that was a mighty OLB.' If you can't even get in front of someone and you are as mediocre of a pass catcher as Dray then honest question, why are you on the roster?

There is obviously a lot that goes into the running game, but without effort from every guy plays will consistently be blown up. 5 outstanding blocks and a whiff still results in a guy with a free shot in the backfield at our RB.

did you mean to link a different play. because it looks like Dray played the outside expecting 72 or 77 to pick up the olb if he went inside.

if you watch his hands youll see that he did try the grab the guy once he overplayed to the outside .... 72 needs to trust the guy on the inside. and 77

lets say dray doesnt overplay the block and stays inside. 77 needs to pick that guy up after its clear 72 is squared off.

the play looks like its supposed to be a sweep to the right. if thats the Case 77 didnt make his read or 72 picked the wrong block lane.

tornicade, that is #72 Mitchell Schwartz, there is no #78. It looked like a lot of miscommunication on that play, the Raiders sent a lot of well-disguised blitzes at the Browns all day long. Perhaps the answer is to stop calling out so many matchup blocking schemes at the line... or it might be to finally punish teams in the passing game for sending the house on blitzes.

This guy is a good follow if you like news about the football part of the Browns.

We can have 3 Danny Shelton's on the line but it won't help the run game when our LB's are just sitting back there talking about who's gonna get stuck with the yellow Starburst at the post-game meal.

Can't do shit when their RB's are past the line and our LB's haven't even come close to touching them yet.

If either Gordon/Woodhead get 100+ on us or 120yds+ combined, all hope is lost.

Don't you dare talk about yellow starburst like that

Going back and forth between the 4-3 and 3-4 has killed the Browns d line and linebackers. Another reason why firing Pettine could set the team back even further if they would go on to hire a 4-3 staff.

I would hope the current investments in a 3-4 front seven means they are sticking with it, but I have wanted the Browns to stick with one system many times before.

Swapping out the front seven and trying unsuccessfully to find a quarterback has decimated other positions. There are always year to year justifications, but long-term Cleveland is stuck with the same problems in perpetuity.

Starks and Shelton have prevented holes from opening. Bryant, when healthy, is a great 3 linemen bookend as well. Perhaps these young backups can grow from the failings of the Oakland game. The linebackers outside of Dansby seem to be one-trick ponies. Drafting a multi-dimensional linebacker like Mack would have changed this 3-4 defense as much as any other position. I don't see that from Orchard or Mingo yet.

Ba:bigthumbup:sically exactly what I said in the game thread, btw.

Honestly, I try to avoid those threads, so I didn't see it. The Browns run my emotions high and low enough already. :chuckle:

Ok... I have close to no sense of humor when it comes to crushing the Browns, but I laughed hard. :chuckle:
