I'm with Griffin on this one...

I can't say that I agree with Griffin if he's looking for a "Shumpert backup." If by that Haynes means a two-way defensive-minded wing, well then, hell yea; sign me up! I just don't think such a player will fall into our lap for the TPE, and if we wait too long, Morris might get dealt and we'll have missed the boat.

BTW, remember when David West was reported as wanting assurances to be ahead of Varejao in the lineup?

Wish we could revisit that decision. Goes to show that waiting is not always prudent.

Yeah, I thought Moz was turning the corner the other day with all that hustle in the first half. Then, back to the same old same old last night.

Evidently Memphis players questioning Jeff Green's effort. he's already been replaced in lineup by Barnes.

Here's Griz podcast about it...

Green is ideal Cavs target in that he's more 3 than 4 and would provide a younger, more athletic alternative to Jefferson

he's not as good offensively, and his defensive effort has been spotty but he's making $9.5M so he fits beneath the cap, he can play the 4 in a pinch and while he's only a 27% 3pt shooter this year, he's 34% for the career, adn 40% for career on corner 3s. he is actually a decent slasher and can put the ball on the deck, though like KLove has a tendency to be tentative and not look for his shot.

that said, he hasn't been that great on D and his closeout is scary bad (+12% on 3pt attempts)

Not sure what Cavs could offer, though perhaps the Griz would like Andy given how Brandon Wright's out (for season?) with knee issues

Jeff Green would be perfect if we could just get him to give a shit.

LeBron got JR to give a shit. In LeBron I trust.

Sign me up for either Morris or Green if we are willing to pay 4 times their salary to obtain them.

Jeff Green is an interesting suggestion; I like the idea. But let's not forget that Green is still a project at 28 years old. He's not a good defender, by any stretch of the imagination, and it's questionable if that will ever improve.

While he is an immediate improvement over Richard Jefferson in almost every respect other than 3pt shooting (which we do too much of anyway), I don't think he's "the perfect fit" so to speak.

I say that because comparing what he'd bring as opposed to what we'd get from Morris; I'd rather go with Morris, to be perfectly honest. Green's metrics, for his age and position, and this stage of development in his career, just don't bode well.

Again, I'd take him rather than not taking anyone, since it doesn't hurt us to add someone like Green to the roster; but, I don't think Green is an option that is obviously better than Markieff Morris.

I'd be surprised if we weren't willing to, quite honestly. If the Cavs do nothing with the TPE; I do not think that would go over well with any of the Big 3, particularly LeBron James.

Can't embed with the time code for some reason, but FF to 2:25 and you see him go against Draymond. Also, he does a great job against Boogie Cousins in the post in this video, so I think he could definitely play some 4 (if we don't just use him at 3 with Bron at the 4 or 5).

Only costs $5.5M this year and next (could cut him for only $1.5M next year if it didn't work out). Do it, Griff.

Yeah, I think it is just a matter of preference as to what position you want the Cavs to pursue. I would like a versatile wing that can play/guard multiple positions. A slasher that also has a capable jumper. Green is all of those things.

Green has been a good defender before and if he could be motivated again, I think he could certainly be a better defender than JR has become here. Green can legit play/guard the 2-4 spots which I really like. He can fit in any lineup - small or big.

Markieff might very well be the better/more valuable player overall, but I like Green better for this team. But again, I think it's a matter of preference as to the type of player you want. Kieff would do fine here (again, if his head can get on straight).

Neither Markieff Morris nor Jeff Green have cared enough about basketball to give the fullest effort. They are cut from the same cloth, and that cloth is the type of cheap felt your mom used to make your Christmas pageant costume.

I'd say no on both serially unmotivated defenders unless the teams are including significant assets with them. I'd prefer Tony Allen or PJ Tucker. Those guys play to win, despite some faults.

Honestly Rob, I think we want the same kind of player -- I just don't think Green is that guy. He plays the right position, and he's athletic, but he's got so many problems on both ends of the floor with effort and focus being a big concern that I'm just not sure if he's a guy we should think will add to our team. I mean, defensive woes aside, he was a net negative on the flailing Celtics, so, that has to be taken into account.

I'd still take him over nothing though.

The Cavs need a versatile defender who can sink open shots. Preferably one that can guard power forwards and slower wing players. The guy I keep thinking is perfect would be Thad Young; unfortunately, it doesn't sound like he is available. PJ Tucker is a cool player, incredibly physical with a decent 3pt shot (34%), but I'm curious how he deals with speed. I'll look at stats and watch some Suns games to see, just not sure at this point. Any other ideas for players that could be available outside of Morris, Green, and Tucker?

That's fair. While Green & Kieff bring similar things to the table, they are different players as far as what positions they can play.

Pj Tucker and Tony Allen are payed pretty much exactly what they are worth? Not a chance in hell we get them for just the TPE. And we don't have much in the way of assets...
