2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Frankly I don't see how anyone is going to stop him.

The only person who can stop Zion is himself, by eating his way out of the league.

So if the Cavs get #1, and Zion continues on this path, they better really do their due dilegence and not get duped like they with with Bennett. But Bennett was always much more of a finesse tweener with average athleticism and a good jumper that fell off a cliff after college. Totally different player. But if Zion's character/motor/work ethic gets the thumbs up from the people it needs to get the thumbs up from, I don't see why you would even consider anyone else. That athleticism plus body frame/type is just so rare and so special...

I love Barrett, don't get me wrong...but I don't project him as a potential transformative star.... Is his ceiling high? Yeah...maybe could be the 10th best player in the league? Maybe the 8th?

But he just doesn't scream "FREAK" to me.....Zion does.

I think concerns about his mobility on defense are overblown too. The guy is just a total freak of an athlete and his first step quickness and agility are unheard of for a guy his size. He probably offers a lot more switchability than people think if he fully commits to improving and focusing on that end.

Even if he gets beat off the dribble, the guys ability to recover and block the shot is unprecedented.

No, it's just that it's a ridiculous amount of shots for a player to take in college, let alone when he shares the ball with two ridiculous prospects. Could be a bad thing or a good thing...depends how you look at it.

Scoring efficiently on 32 shots is certainly not a bad thing.

55.8% EFG and 54.2% TS.

At high volume, that EFG is in the LeBron zone for a wing player (55-60%).

His TS was drug down a few % points by the sloppy FT shooting but again, at volume for a perimeter player, impressive.

would anyone be able to stop Zion as a PnR Roll Man? forget about him being the Ball Handler. What if the they switch? his aggressiveness and explosiveness in small quarters/in the post is scary. Who would want to even put a body on that wrecking ball?

This is not what i'm saying. I don't think his extremely high USG% is realistic, and is he going to be elite in terms of efficiency? Can he be a good off-ball player?

Anyways, advanced stats are out! Take a look at RJ Baretts advanced stats compared to Zion and even Reddish.

RJ: 41.3 points per 40 on 55% true shooting. That's really good.
Cam: 36.7 points per 40 on 64% true shooting. That's also really good.

Zion: 48.7 points per 40 on 86% true shooting. That's preposterous.

You aren't drafting a roll man #1 overall in the modern NBA. That is my answer. :)

I like Zion.....but until he shows the ability to change directions and finish via something other than a straight line drive, I think people are giving him way too much credit on offense.

Is Reid Travis an NBA defender? Barrett went head to head with Keldon Johnson, an NBA level defender and athlete, and hung 33 on him with high volume efficient shooting.

It's crazy that it's not complete hyperbole to say this, but Zion has a case to being legitimately the most athletic player in league history. At the very least he's in that top tier with guys like LeBron and Shaq. No clue what happens to him in the future, but I'm going to enjoy his season in college more than any other one and done I can remember.

Do you honestly believe he is strictly a roll man? This is not what I was saying. I believe he is a very well-rounded player that will be able to play on and off the ball efficiently and create havoc because of constant mismatches.

And he already shows ability to change directions...I also think his handle is much tighter than he is given credit for.

Baretts OBPM -4.1 DBPM -4.8 BPM -8.9 PER 29.8

Zions OBPM 12.6 DBPM 0.8 BPM 13.4 PER 55.1

Reddish OBPM 5.7 DBPM 1.1 BPM 6.8 PER 38.3

No, clearly not. I think he's a good player but I'm not taking him #1 over a 6'7" wing who (at 18) appears as though he has no offensive weakness. Ignore Barrett can be a good defender......guys his size and profile, who can score inside and out are the most valuable commodity in the league.

If Zion starts showing more dribbling versatility, then sure.....he can pry his way in to the conversation.....but I watch film as if I envision it is NBA players and I just can't see Zion being an elite NBA scorer with HOW he scores TODAY.

He's still young (ZW) and he has a ton of upside but I'm betting on the guy that can finish effortlessly with both hands, in a multitude of ways and has plus athleticism over a freakishly athletic guy who is small for his natural position.

Am I the only one who was impressed with Zion's jumper? It looks, legitimately, good.

Not broken, but I wouldn't call it legitimately good. He was nothing but clanks and airballs in warm ups. Seeing a couple go in in a game is great, but he has a long ways to go before I would consider his jumper a good option on offense.
