Game Thread | Game #15 | Hornets @ Cavs | Nov. 18, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have added new coach to the list of needs

I just can’t tell if we played a game just now in the gutters, or if we played better and Charlotte just played over their heads. I suspect a bit of both.

Concerned at the talent drop off after the top 4. Rubio will help but there is a chasm there. Reality is setting in for me, this is a fun but flawed roster that desperately needs a solid wing.

Fun enough win I guess but I mean… it should not have been this difficult.
Okoro doesn’t just provide nothing, he’s routinely a net negative.

2 wing spots absolutely wasted on Okoro and Windler. Stevens is fine but shouldn’t need to play 30 minutes ever.

Wade is a significant upgrade from all of them but that only fixes so much… and Cedi getting only 7 minutes when the bench sputtered yet again?

Wow feels good to get the w but 2ot agaisnt a hornets team not good
While Charlotte is struggling this season, remember they were the other play-in team last season. They have some talent; too good to be 4-13.

So to recap

We've now blown massive leads late against the Wizards, the Clippers, and now the Hornets.

Two of those teams suck. One of them was missing their best player.

Up 7 against the Wizards, with the ball, and a minute and 10 seconds left. Overtime.

Up 10 with 2:39 left against the Cliippers, lose in regulation.

And now this one, which probably takes the cake. Up 10 with 50 seconds left. OT.
And we’ve only played 15 games - a disturbing trend

A lot of this I put on the guards. DG and Mitchell are All-Star guards who need to polish off late leads.

The coaching can and should be better but both of those guys need to get open and demand the ball late.

A lot of lazy running through the motions cuts and being content forcing an inbounder to find a release valve. That doesn’t cut it in the NBA.

I hate putting minute miles on guys like this but seeing how DG and Mobley responded was incredibly encouraging.

I'm just not going to get off the late game defense.

Even before the last second possession, they gave Washington a quick catch and shoot 3 on an out of bounds play, up 6, with 28 seconds left.

Again, not switching.

And then they do it again on the last second Rozier 3.

They get burned twice in the span of 30 seconds.

I'm not gonna get off of this for the next 2 days.

He's god awful in late game situations. As bad as it gets.

Sure, and Rubio will drive offense.

But it’s clear this team MUST go find another shooter. I don’t think it can wait for the deadline. We need a 40% movement shooter.

Kennard, Grayson Allen, Duncan Robinson, any and every shooter on the market we need to check in on.
But no draft capital to spend on said acquisition.

Garland and Mitchell are scoring in spite of this dogshit offense we have. Each guy should be feasting off ball. We should be getting them open spot up threes. Cuts through the lane. Coming off screens. Misdirection.

They’re scoring HARD points. Which is good only because it shows they CAN and we will need them to to ascend to the heights we are looking to ascend to.

But over 82 games and even during the playoffs you need to score easy Fucking baskets.

Movement and flow has gone out the window as JBBs rotation has tightened up. The only dude who can get a spot up three designed for him off any kind of action is Kevin Love.

Those dudes holding up signs in the postgame show need some better markers

But no draft capital to spend on said acquisition.
Not true.

Miami would probably even throw us a pick with Robinson to take his contract if we send out LeVert’s expiring.

DG hit some clutch shots too.

I think we need Wade more than I thought. Cedi should be getting more minutes, especially this time of year, especially with Wade out.

This team does not communicate on defense!
Come on Cavs…..this 8th grade and HS bullshit! Call out “pick right pick left”, “switch”, “slide through”!!!!! We leave too many open looks at the basket. How did we come out of a time out and not account for Rozier allowing him to hit the shot to send the game into OT????????
Yet in the end, Rozier missed his last 6 three pointers and was 11-33 overall for the night.

We should have won in regulation to be sure. Our biggest problem is we start dribbling the air out of the ball trying to kill clock and it ruins any and all offensive flow we may have had going. I can definitely blame JBB for that but also Garland loves that shit, he wants to dribble down the clock then throw up a long three if he has his way.

Mitchell lost his handle and his shot late in the game and that hurts. We quit going inside to our bigs in crunch time and that hurts. Basically we just go completely away from anything and everything that makes us successful offensively when it gets to crunch time and the defenses tighten up.

The refs are definitely a part of why it went to OT also, some egregious non calls there.

0k0r0 has no business being on the court, pretty much ever, so JBB can own that.

Oubre, Rozier, and Washington were pretty much hitting every three pointer they threw up when they erased the lead and for the start of the OT. But then they came back to earth and we won going away.
