Game Thread | Game #15 | Hornets @ Cavs | Nov. 18, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Inconsistent defense at best, poor ball control, no offensive ball movement, bad inbounding, bad decision-making, zero bench contributions, Okoro…

We have the talent to overcome nearly all of these issues - save for maybe bench scoring. But the coaching is something that just can’t fix itself.

I just can’t tell if we played a game just now in the gutters, or if we played better and Charlotte just played over their heads. I suspect a bit of both.

Concerned at the talent drop off after the top 4. Rubio will help but there is a chasm there. Reality is setting in for me, this is a fun but flawed roster that desperately needs a solid wing.

Fun enough win I guess but I mean… it should not have been this difficult.

So to recap

We've now blown massive leads late against the Wizards, the Clippers, and now the Hornets.

Two of those teams suck. One of them was missing their best player.

Up 7 against the Wizards, with the ball, and a minute and 10 seconds left. Overtime.

Up 10 with 2:39 left against the Cliippers, lose in regulation.

And now this one, which probably takes the cake. Up 10 with 50 seconds left. OT.

I checked on google and thought the game said it was final at 105-104 I thought we lost. Then I checked in here and realized the game was still going.

I watched from the 1st OT and at least in the time I watched everyone looked good. Garland and Mitchell were clutch af. Levert and Mobley played great D. And Allen. Mobley was everywhere.

I didn’t see the rest of the game but I’m glad we closed it.

Good game at the end.

DG, Mitchell, Mobley and JA all dawgs.

Caris played big in the last OT. Big steal, rebounds and defense.

Stevens had some good moments.

I’m really just speechless. This was really a horror movie and we almost didn’t make it.

This team does not communicate on defense!
Come on Cavs…..this 8th grade and HS bullshit! Call out “pick right pick left”, “switch”, “slide through”!!!!! We leave too many open looks at the basket. How did we come out of a time out and not account for Rozier allowing him to hit the shot to send the game into OT????????

From my perspective it was great. Because I missed the game and thought we already lost when I check the box score lol.

I know we shouldn’t been in this situation but fortunately we got a win tonight. Maybe this will help a win streak.

But playing against a terrible Charlotte team, Neto and Lopez should have played tonight to extend the bench. The bench has been awful in scoring and we need JB to extend that rotation in these kinds of games especially.

In game situations, last 2 minutes, in bounds plays, needs a lot of work. Situational is so key and we’ve struggled badly. Not switching with less than 2.5 sec. Not guarding the 3 perimeter with 2.5 left when the team needs a 3 - you don’t require a person in the paint - the opposing team has no timeouts. It’s hard for them to win if they just score a bucket. These little things are going to cost us badly in the future if our staff doesn’t recognize these things.

Anyways, Garland had 40+ points. Made some nice dishes to Allen and Mobley. Mitchell had 34.

Welcome back Allen. We really missed your inside presence. He had some nice passes to Mobley for easy dunks. You sure let ‘‘em know Plumlee.

Mobley was phenomenal on the boards. Career high 18 tonight along with 21 points and 5 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks. Saved us with key offensive rebound to get Garland tie with a 3 to force double OT. Also saved us for other key rebounds on both ends that helped us to score in the following possession.

Garland and Mitchell get too careless with the ball so that needs to improve. But these guys played extremely well to overcome this. Both scored enough to win tonight. Just absolutely scoring machines.

Levert is better off coming from the bench and did have 2 playmaking plays to the big men which was good. Still struggles with his midrange though.

Good effort by Lamar tonight. We really need a true wing though.

Win is a win. Hope this helps a streak going.

A lot of this I put on the guards. DG and Mitchell are All-Star guards who need to polish off late leads.

The coaching can and should be better but both of those guys need to get open and demand the ball late.

A lot of lazy running through the motions cuts and being content forcing an inbounder to find a release valve. That doesn’t cut it in the NBA.

I hate putting minute miles on guys like this but seeing how DG and Mobley responded was incredibly encouraging.

Individual stats: We're in all-star territory. And our best player tonight was Mobley, who isn't an all-star yet. I bet he gets the JYD.

Starters:
Allen 20-12-2 with 4 blocks in 45 minutes.
Mobley 21-18-5 with a steal and 2 blocks in 45 minutes
Garland 41-1-6 5 steals and a block in 48 minutes. We needed all those minutes too.
Stevens 3-4-1 with a block in 28 minutes.
Mitchell 34-5-6 in 43 minutes Mitchell and Garland need to play off each other more. It seems like too much one on one.

Bench: 14-12-5 in 30 minutes. Poor performance. But we knew that.
Love 6-7-2 in 24 minutes
LeVert 4-3-2 with a steal in OT to seal the game. 30 minutes
Osman 1-1-1 in 7 minutes
Okoro 3-1-0 in 16 minutes
