Game Thread | Game #65 | Cavs @ Celtics | March 1, 2023 (ESPN)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Next game coming up soon vs Boston, I hope we see JB change the strat... I really do...

Disappointing loss, Boston doesn't scare me. Cavs can play against them but they'll need to be better.

The dry spell in the third was tough. Some of the shots Cavs had during Boston's run in the third popped in and out and were pretty good looks, but the impact of missing those while Boston hit everything after reading the defense and swishing was just enough to make it very difficult coming back. Cavs almost did regardless.

we need to use these last 20 games as auditions for Green, Merrill, and fuck it. Windler. We need shooting. If Okoro and Wade won’t shoot, then find someone who can.
I know I’m old and forgetful, but who is Merrill?

Mitchell looked like he got hurt and played a total of 44 minutes this game, scoring 44 points. Our bench scored 14 points in 65 minutes. I think if we got rid of the entire bench and just signed shooters from the G-League, we'd be better off. Why keep Lopez, Green, Neto, Diakite, I Mobley, Stevens, ect? The coach isn't going to use them. Get mobile players who can shoot...

Oh, and a new coach next season. THX.

Probably because he won't use their replacements either.

- Offensively, Dean Wade looks lost out there. Comebackid has been hinting at why that might be I guess. I thought he played good D against Tatum though
- Outside of Mitchell and Garland, we have no consistent offensive creators. LeVert should be one but unfortunately isn't. No one can score consistently off the bench.
- That kickout to the corner, if Okoro isn't hitting those corner 3s, we're playing 4 on 5
- As another poster pointed out, this team overreacts to drives and postups and gives up open 3s. All season
- Gutsy fight Mitchell and Garland put up at the end, kudos to them but they had no help

Personally, I hope they do give Windler a shot. Windler is an underrated defensive rebounder (much better than Wade) and Cavs can use that. Certainly can't do worse than Wade with shooting the 3..

Lol imagine thinking any coach would play those dudes any significant minutes. The only guy you mentioned that would get any run on any team is Neto and he’s fairly redundant with Rubio

Mitchell: 44 min
Garland: 41 min
Mobley: 39 min
Allen: 39 min
LeVert: 33 min
Okoro: 16 min
Wade: 15 min
Rubio: 7 min
Cedi: 5 min

That’s just too much for the starters. We’re bad executing at the end of games as it is. Don’t add fatigue to it. But JBB has shown us he’s really going to shorten up the rotation as close to 5-6 guys as possible. Not excusable in the regular season. You gotta use your bench, idc how bad they are. Rubio should’ve played more. Coulda tried Lamar since we couldn’t get a stop in the 3rd quarter. Coulda kept Love too…

Someone else wanna take this one or should I? Lol, dude…

Osman plays 5 minutes because Okoro misses 3 threes. And doesn’t get a single touch in 5 minutes. Why would any bench players shoot well in a great offensive scheme like that? Dean played 8 minutes with no touch and then shoots it on his first touch after 8 minutes. I’m sure the bench guys are brimming with confidence in this scheme.

If we had a player that contributed 3-4 points , 2-3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 fouls in 17 minutes, we would probably send them to the Charge or waive them.

But that's the average of Okoro, LeVert, Wade, and Cedi's collective contributions tonight. Alot of it is probably scheme/coaching because I refuse to believe they are that bad.

Our two bigs were the next problem. Especially JA. He had 5 points and 7 rebounds. Both of them let 37 year old Horford drop 23 and 11 while going 6/8 from 3.

Looked like a playoff game with the starters getting heavy minutes.

The difference was the 3-point shooting, as usual. The Cavs were 10-for-32, the Celtics 16-for-32. That's an 18-point difference in a 4-point loss. As I said in the preview, the Cavs need to hold the Celts to about 32% from deep like they did in the first two games. If they did they would have won.

The Cavs also missed 8 free throws in a 4-point loss, including 3 by Garland.

Allen pretty much was a non-factor with 5 points and Mobley's shots were not dropping as he went 6-for-15.

Tatum and Mitchell kind of neutralized each other as DM had a magnificent line of 44/4/5 while Tatum was 41/11/8. The difference was Mitchell took 32 shots and Tatum 21. Scoring 41 points on 21 shots is amazing.

Al Horford is still going strong at 36 with 23 points and 11 boards. He was killing it from deep, going 6-for-8. Robert Williams, who missed the first two games, had 11 points and 11 boards and was a +9. I thought he outplayed Allen.

Garland was 5-for-9 on 3's while the rest of the Cavs were 5-for-23. Garland and Mitchell needed a lot more help but Mobley and Allen combined for only 17 and the non-core four only had 23.

Awesome effort by Mitchell as he kept the Cavs within shouting distance during the 41-point 3rd quarter by the Celtics. The Cavs made a run to start the 4th with Tatum on the bench but once he returned it was all over except for the last gasp by the Cavs to make the score respectable.

We get them in Cleveland in five days. JBB needs to find somebody who can contribute besides the Core Four and LeVert. It's not looking good.
