Mock Draft 23 Commentary!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perry has a great background as a three sport athlete in high school, including special explosiveness from the long jump. He's a guy who has the athletic profile and long limbs to be much better three years from now. Strong pick!

We are back to the 6 hour pick window.

Chinn and Skinner is a very interesting duo in Carolina.

I think they both are both best at playing the same role... but their athleticism intrigues me.

Chinn, Skinner and Brandon Smith in the middle of the field could be scary.

Am I the only one struggling to find desirable prospects for Round 4?
If you ever want some recommendations, just PM me and let me know what position(s) you want some recommendations on.

Some people know UDFA's. Some people don't know anyone outside the first round. Both are completely fine. This is supposed to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. If it ever becomes a chore, there are people around to help you out.

I go off draft lists. If I dont know a prospect, I just take the guy at a position of need that is ranked highest.
I have been watching scouting report videos on youtube. I'm now looking at players who don't have youtube videos.

Not sure if the draft network still is active because half of their names left, but they might have a considerable amount of people scouted with at least some depth.

With two rounds completed and the third nearing the end, here's just a little meat to throw out there and let people pick it apart.

Worst of the First:
  • The Texans and Colts allowing Bryce Young to fall into Seattle's lap
  • Broderick Jones and Anton Harrison going before Skoronski

Best of the first:
  • Joey Porter to Detroit and Lukas Van Ness to Seattle. I would be surprised if either of these players made it to where they were drafted in our mock.
  • Brian Branch to Pittsburgh gives them a scary safety duo with Minkah and Branch.
  • Nolan Smith to New Orleans gives them a dynamite situational pass rusher that can push some of their bigger defensive ends inside on third down

Worst of the second:
  • Jahmyr Gibbs to Cincinnati. I like Gibbs. I think he's going to be a great RB. I don't think there's positional value here. Even if Gibbs is great, Cincinnati is going to regret using pick 35, a premium asset, on a RB.
  • Blake Freeland to Green Bay. I guess Freeland is one of those guys I'm out on a limb on in this draft. I don't think he has the functional strength to play in the NFL.

Best of the second:
  • Cedric Tillman to Green Bay. I think Tillman is sneakily underrated in this draft, due in large part to Tennessee's system. I see a lot of things to like about Tillman's game. He has good size. He has good quickness. He shows a professional feel for the position and understands how to use his feet to set up defensive backs in order to get open. I'm not saying he's as talented as Michael Thomas, but the same way Thomas was de-valued by the Ohio State system, I think Tillman is undervalued by th Tennessee system. If someone told me they had Tillman as a top 3 WR in this class, I wouldn't call them crazy.
  • Felix Anudike-Uzomah to Chicago. I just love FAU's tape. I think he's going to wreck shit in Chicago and leave people asking how he didn't go in the first round.
  • Keeanu Benton to Dallas. He's going to eat blocks, stop the run, and allow that already dangerous defense to be even more deadly.

Broderick Jones and Anton Harrison going before Skoronski

I debated Jones vs. Skoronski. The question for me was Skoronski's ceiling as a left tackle. He will be a starter for the next decade, but where?

Skoronski is talented, but has 32 1/4 inch arms. Now even Quentin Nelson of the Colts had to bounce to left guard because of arm length, and his arms are longer than Skoronski's by an inch and a half. Joel Bitonio has 33 1/4th inch arms and the Browns determined that he is best used as a guard because of it.

So I'm betting on the incredible upside of Jones and his combination of athleticism, talent, and 34 3/4 inch arms. Fair or not, it's an incredibly important stat.

It's a good point.

Rashawn Slater has similar arm length--and I know both Joe Thomas and Mitchell Schwartz were 33"

Are those exceptions? Do we see good tackle prospects struggle because they have short arms? Or do we just see a high correlation between the good tackle prospects and long arms?

Nelson was always a guard. He was drafted as such and considering he's the best guard since Larry Allen, I think it's paid off.

I guess Skoronski is just one of those cases I'll have to watch to make a more informed decision in the future. I think great tackle prospects with slightly shorter arms can still be great tackles.
