Here's who I'd like to look at...

(If Frye just looks lost and inadequate at the end of the season and showed nothing.)

QB Matt Schaub Restricted Free Agent Looks more promising then Frye that's why Atlanta wouldn't give him up straight up for Abraham. They also wouldn't include him for a 2nd rounder  Cannon for an arm absolute CANNON.

OG Max Starks Pittsburgh Steelers Restricted Free Agent (Highly Unlikely) Absolute monster...he's young 6'8" 337 lbs of pure nasty.

DE Dwight Freeny Unrestricted Free Agent We need a stud D-Lineman at whatever position and this guy is an absolute beast. We need a powerful speed guy off the edge...bring him and Wimbley

OG Eric Steinbach Unrestricted Free Agent I'd love to steal away a division rivals starting guard. A fix if you will to a mistake we made a few years ago not drafting this guy.

OT Mike Gandy UFA Pretty young LT that's led Willis McGahee to some pretty nice rushing stats the last few years. We need some youth at the position as Tucker looks like he could be on his last season with us the way he's been getting blown up.

We need to do something..I think we need to cut ties with Shaffer the guys been pretty bad for the contract he got. Hope Bentley comes back strong and add some younger G's and T's.

We need to take a Tackle with the first pick I think unless we have the chance to draft an absolute stud at another position. I'd go with Jared Gaither from Maryland. He has a lot of upside moreso then Joe Thomas from Wisconsin but doesn't have the recognition either.

Thomas had a nasty ACL injury and some are wondering if he can come back from his knee injury.

Gaither is 6'9" 350 lbs we desperately need size on the o-line..I'd love to see him out there with Bentley...that's 700 lbs of beef :chuckles:

Freeny doesnt play in our system and we have Wimbley....so theres no point at really looking at hime.

I need to get a list of FA OL.

Schaub will get the first and 3rd round tag from the Falcons, I am sure. So you'll have to make an offer they won't match, and give up your first and third. I can't see some team picking early that is willing to do that, but if someone like the Cowboys(who will probably pick in the 20s) liked him, it could happen. He may also get traded at some point, but it would certainly be for a first rounder at least.

Steelers will probably give Starks the First round tender. Really, though, he's sucked this year and he's a big part of our problem on offense. The right side of the line is just not that good. He's a tackle also, not a guard.

Freeney isn't the type of guy you would necessarily play at 3/4 DE. You'd have to modify the system, or have him play OLB from time to time. I'm pretty sure the Colts would also look to franchise and/or extend him before the end of this fiscal season.

It'd be great to see the Bengals lose a Steinbech. I hate the Bengals and their pimply fans.

Restricted FA's are very difficult to acquire and take high draft picks to get. I don't see the Browns giving up their higher choices.

Eric Steinbach should be a top priority. He's still young, is a solid player and fills a much needed spot at G. Signing him also weakens a division rival.
I did read somewhere recently that it's not likely the Bengals will resign him due to cap and financial issues.

Steve Hutchinson was a RFA though wasn't he? And the Vikes just slapped the Hawks in the mouth and took him.

Well they front loaded that contract and they also had Alexander as a FA as well, add to the big deal W Jones got a year before I believe, they were in no position to match that deal.

Transition tag. The Hawks could have matched the offer, but it was written in a specific manner in which the Seahawks would have been guaranteeing Hutchinson 49 million dollars. So there was no chance they could match it.

Eric Steinback, absolutely, HAS TO BE the #1 prority... As of now, I would take him over, yes, Dwight Freeney... Steinbach is too good of a player to pass up and having a left line of Shaffer, Steinbach and Bentley would be among one of the best.. Steinbach is already one of the best guards in the game at 26 years old.. That's is VERY young for an offensive lineman, consiering they go until their mid 30's... Hutchinson is already 28, but he is a much better player.. Basically, I don't care how we get him.. Get him, no matter what the contract is... He's one of the best pass blocking G's in the league AND can play LT, because of his size.. We could even move him outside and Shaffer inside..

Getting a tackle is something that I am not ready to do.. yet.. Shaffer hasn't done well, but he has done okay.. I want to play the season out until I make a ruling on him..

As for Tucker.. He's pretty much done.. I mean, you could see it, it's pretty blatent.. But, I believe that either Kelly Butler or Nat Dorsey can start at him in the next couple of years for him.. Don't forget, Butler started 16 games at LT for the Lions last year and didn't do to shabby.. It's a lot easier to be a RT i n this league then a LT...

To make not of some other O-Lineman, we should take a look at Sean Locklear, RT, and Derrick Dockery, RG,.. Locklear was a rookie last year and played damn well starting at RT... He'd be a nice, nice replacement for Tucker.. Dockery is another young offensive lineman that is a good run blocker.. He is apart of the, always, good Redskins offensive line.. He's a very strong guy who's a good run-blocker.. Just imagine this offensive line:

LT: Kevin Shaffer
LG: Eric Steinbach
C: LeCharles Bentley
RG: Derrick Dockery
RT: Sean Lockler

As for the Schaub, he's a guy I really like at QB.. Every time Vick has been out, he's stepped up and player well.. But, a 1st and 3rd is too much for me..

Here's what Sporting News has to say about him:

Strengths: Has a quick release and shows good footwork, poise and accuracy. Can throw with touch. Has good speed, size and can get outside and throw on the run. A confident leader.

Weaknesses: Lacking ideal arm strength, elusiveness and decision-making ability. Doesn't buy many seconds chances or protect the ball adequately.

Bottom Line: His best football is still is in front of him. He's a fast riser who will command big dollars when he's available. A case can be made that he's better than Michael Vick.

Rated #21 in QB rankings... Ahead of guys lke Steve McNair, Drew Bledsoe and David Carr..

Honestly for that price, I'd rather stick to Frye and see what he's got or get a guy like Troy Smith.

Honestly, I'd much rather take a guy like Chris Simms who is a UFA as well..

For RB's... I really REALLY like Michael Turner... He's a RFA, so I am guessing he will be hard to get from the Chargers.. PIP a little help? :chuckles: Anyway, it kinda reminds me of the Chester Taylor situation a couple of seasons ago.. A young backup RB who is on the rise and looking for a pay day.. Both of them are RFA and have the ability to be the feature back...

But, with the drafting of Harrison, I think it's less likely of a possibility.. Although, Savage DID make an offer to Chester Taylor, so we never know..

As for the WR position, we're going to need someone to replace Northcutt.. In my mind, there's no way that Northutt stays.. We really don't need him for anything.. He's pretty much worthless on offense and on special teams, Cribbs has shown he can do the job..

So, I'd look at guys like Keenan McCardell or Kevin Curtis to fill that role.. Both small, speddy receivers with good hands..

For DL, I really like Darnell Docket ever since he came out of college.. He's a good sized lineman at 6'4 295, but I am not sure he can be a good two-gap lineman.. He's a very athletic guy for his size and does a good job penetrating.. Not much on the D-Line..

We're okay at LB.. It's too bad though.. Guys like Adalius Thomas, London Fletcher, Randall Godfrey and Lance Briggs will all be UFA..

CB's are pretty deep this year.. Nate Clements is defintely the stud of the group, but I honestly don't think we'll go after him with the big contracts of Bodden and Baxter.. Instead, I think we'll go after a 3rd or 4th CB.. I'd go after a guy like Asante Samuel, from New England, who has really become a good CB in this league..

All in all, there are some big names and chances to get places fixed... Mainly both sides of the lines..

Here are my Top 5 FA's we should go after:

1). Eric Steinbach, G, Bengals [UFA]
2). Chris Simms (if Frye proves to be not the QB) [UFA]
3). Derrick Dockery/Sean Locklear [UFA's]
4). Asante Samuel, CB, New England [UFA]
5). Terdell Sands, NT, Oakland (6'7 335, only 26) [UFA]

Wasn't their something crazy in the contract, like if the Hawks matched they had to make Hutchinson the highest paid tackle or wide receiver in the league, which he obviously doesn't play either.

Bodden doesn't have a big contract, he's got4 years $10 million.

I'd cut Baxter and sign Clements

Sorry... I meant to say with those guys locked up..

I surely wouldn't care.. But our pass defense isn't the problem.. We're ranked 11th in the NFL... Our run defense is 26th in RYPG.. .That's the problem..

If they matched, Hutch had to be the highest paid lineman on their team or his contract would be guaranteed. The other thing you are probably thinking of was the Nate Burleson contract the seahawks gave out. It said something like if Burleson wasn't paid more than the highest paid running back on the Vikings his full contract was guaranteed.....something like that.

Burleson's real deal was for something like 4 and 14, but he signed a 7 year 49million dollar offer sheet(same size as Hutch's deal.)

You dont sign running backs, you draft them. Look at all the elite backs in the NFL, they are all drafted by their team. KC, San Deigo, Seattle, NY, New England with Marooney, Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, etc...etc...

As for DBs, I think we are going to go the draft route with that one and possibly sign a vet for depth. Bodden, Bax and Cutch are solid.

We need to look into drafting a stud DT or seeing whats on the market....Ted is too old.

LBs, I think we are set there as well as saftey.

I like the idea of Steiny...hopefulyl we can pull that one off.
