Well It had to be said didn't It. I noticed that as well.

Swisher has such a rubber face, and that enthusiasm (HIGH FIVES ALL THE TIME!) I hope will jive well in this clubhouse. I think it will, with at least a few of them.

I think this club has done enough to get to .500. Where they go from there is going to depend big-time on the continued development of the young guys and on the bounce back of the supposed 1-2 in the rotation. Hell, I would say 50% rides on the shoulders of Masterson and Ubaldo alone. Let's see what happens.

As for DH, Scott Hairston is still out there, unless they are damned and determined to go with a Yan Gomes/Mike Aviles rotation there.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

I enjoy that Swisher did everything he could to get to a bigger market - he sat on the Tribe's offer, created a fake 4-city tour - more or less begged a NY or LA team to sign him.

And then came out and knocked this press conference out of the park.

It's not hard, I have no idea why players can't figure out the PR side of sports. Glad to see Swisher gets it. The Tribe needs this type of personality.

I actually think Canzler gets a serious shot here. I also think the Indians add one more SP this offseason.

I just can't see Canzler making the final roster over Gomes. Gomes does the same thing offensively but can catch and play the field. I think the catching versatility- especially with Marson being such a black hole with the bat- will get him that spot.

Umm about Canzler

For fucks sake, I'd hate to be that guy right now. Teams claiming me and then promptly bumping me every few days.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

And we continue to have a question mark at DH. Righty-o.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

That is bizarre. I wonder if the Indians have moved closer on a deal for a DH.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

It's not that bizarre, really.

Canzler was not an internal option for the DH spot, obviously.

Nor should he have been.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

@TonyIBI: The Indians are up against it w/ payroll but still have a little wiggle room. Could go for a "cheap" bat for $1-3M to DH & play field.

Exactly. Having a career minor leaguer as your full-time DH just isn't a smart decision for any team.

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

@TonyIBI: I'm not a fan of his, but a lot of people think he ends up with #Indians on 1 yr deal RT @DKeller15 delmon young fits perfect

Wait what?

Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

New York Yankees- dumpster divers. Nice.

If you are a Yanks fan, you have to love this offseason. Kevin Youkilis is your big addition, lost Swisher, lost Soriano, lost your starting catcher, resigned your no. 3 starter. At least you are getting back your 40 year old closer, coming off a major injury. Have to be worried if you are a Yanks fan.
