2013 NFL Draft thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't really want to trade down either but now that we don't have a 2nd round pick, we need to trade down.

Robiskie, Hardesty, Little, Veikune, Massaquoi. Our history with second round picks says we don't need a 2nd rd pick

Outside the fact that Hardesty and Little were picked with picks that weren't originally ours, and you conveniently left out Ward and Sheard, I would heartily disagree.

Thats a pretty dumb statement to make. That was a different, terrible front office that picked those picks. Just because we have had a bad history with second round picks doesn't mean we just give up. Lately we have had T.J Ward, Mitchell Schwartz and Jabaal Sheard who are all starters which you conveniently left out. Not to mention D'Qwell Jackson, Mohamed Massaquoi who is our #1 receiver and Montario Hardesty (who has been a bust but that's because of his injury problems).

I'm not saying we should trade down 15 spots like Mangini would but not trading down would be pretty stupid if someone that's also in the top 5 wants to grab a QB and is willing to give up a second.

The thing that sucks, if the Browns continue on their current path, is there is no true #1 "can't miss" prospect... I will say it's still pretty early in the evaluation process.. (At this point draft sites still had RG3 as a late 1st/early 2nd pick, but still...) The other thing that sucks is that there isn't a can't miss prospect at a position of need for the Browns... That being one at the DE spot, CB spot or WR spot... Now if you want to bring QB into this debate, which I certainly think it's too early to do so but, then this wouldn't be a problem... As I think Barkely or Smith could be considered in the run for the 1st pick...

Otherwise, there's no WR currently worthy of a top-3 pick... Although I will say Keenan Allen is my man-crush thus far and a guy I'd love to add to this offense...

There's no CB worthy of a top-5 pick.. Xavier Rhodes and David Amerson have the talent to be top-10 talents but I'm not sure they're elite cover corners at this point..

Now DE is where it could be debated but Bjoen Werner and Sam Montgomery are likely top-15 picks, not top-5... Barkevious Mingo and Jarvis Jones aren't likely to be big enough to play DE, especially opposite of where the RE is required to especially be good vs. the run... Mingo is very likely a 34 OLB... I don't see any way he could be a 43 OLB... Now with Jones, he certainly has displayed the ability to transition okay to the 43 OLB much like Von Miller did with the Broncos.. He is currently playing 34 OLB for Georgia but lines up all over the place and also has displayed the ability to go backwards... But if the D-coordinator uses him right, then that wouldn't be an issue... So there's that..

So this is what sucks about where the Browns are at right now... I'd say Star Lotulelei is the best prospect in the draft right now but DT isn't even close to being a need... And with QB being up in the air, and too early to discuss IMHO, then it kind of pigeonholes the Browns... Under the current scenario I would go with Jarvis Jones and not feel too bad about it... Eric Reid could be a sleeper top-5 pick...

This is why right now I'm all for trading back... Not only does it take the Browns out of a pigeonhole but it would allow them to recoup their 2nd rounder and fill two immediate needs, while still getting a top player... The pass rushers in this class is tremendously deep so the Browns would still be able to get a top-notch one if they dropped down a few spots... They would also be able to get a top WR or CB if they dropped down a few spots from the top-3 to say around 10... I'd much rather go with say Keenan Allen and Carrington Byndom/Tyran Mathieu/Robert Lester then go with Jarvis Jones at the top...

I think at this point the one guy who I'd say could possibly make the leap to no-doubt #1 is Geno Smith. I'm not sure if he's good enough to be a no-doubt #1; I don't think he's the freak athlete that RGIII and Cam are, and his college system is about as far from an NFL offense as you can get, but he seems to have the combo of athleticism and arm talent that the QB position seems to be heading towards. I think Barkley blew it by coming back for his senior year as his production is dipping and he may never be able to get past his physical deficiencies; if he didn't, he'd probably be our QB right now. Kinda worried about Tyler Wilson's health and Arkansas is having a god-awful season. I guess a sleeper I could be on board with is EJ Manuel, but watching Clemson vs FSU I still felt like he missed on a bunch of completions. Damn I wish Teddy Bridgewater was eligible this year.

(Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I haven't seen as much tape of these guys this season as I'd need to to make a complete opinion)

I'm intrigued by Jarvis Jones... I know he's too small for DE so he'd have to play LB. The kid just seems to make plays.

Call me crazy, but I see a lot of Von Miller in Jarvis Jones. I'm not sure it's legit or not, because I really really really wanted Miller in 2011...

I like Jones alot as well i dont know if hes as good as Miller yet but Kiper has him #1 right now on his big board ahead of Barkley...

If the Browns get the 1st pick, I think they'll take Geno Smith. You don't take a DE over a legit star qb prospect. He could afford to sit a year and play Weeden next year.

The #1 overall pick sitting a year? Haha you must be joking.

This isn't 1994 where you sat for 3 years and came in. 1st round you play. 2nd round you probably play year 1. 3rd round you might play year 1.

Unless Weeden looks like Ryan Leaf the rest of the year....WE'RE NOT TAKING A QUARTERBACK

end of discussion

as it pertains to Jarvis Jones. He'd be the guy i'd want to get if land the #1 pick
