Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Idk how all these linemen make the roster. Already have at least 3 guys that could play the nose in a pinch.

Cardinals waive Brian Hoyer

The second-round restricted free agent tender has turned into a kiss of death for quarterback Brian Hoyer.

He got one from the Patriots in 2012 and then wound up getting cut by the team before the start of the season. Hoyer bounced from the Steelers to the Cardinals, who gave him the same second-round tender as a restricted free agent this year.

And now he’s looking for work again. Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com reports that the Cardinals have placed Hoyer on waivers.

The move doesn’t come as a big surprise. The Cardinals were reportedly shopping Hoyer for a trade during the draft since the acquisitions of Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton meant Hoyer was going to be the third-string quarterback if he wound up on the roster in Arizona at all. With 2012 sixth-rounder Ryan Lindley on the roster, the Cardinals didn’t need to pay Hoyer $2.023 million to play that role.

Hoyer will now look for a team interested in bolstering their depth chart at quarterback. The best guess is that his salary will ensure he clears waivers, although we for sure until the Cardinals make the move official and Hoyer’s name is forwarded to the other 31 teams. There’s not much else on the market at this point in the offseason, which means Hoyer should be high on a list that also includes Tyler Thigpen and Tim Tebow.

Linked to him all offseason.

Browns sign 5 & waive 5:

The Browns signed cornerbacks Akeem Auguste and Abdul Kanneh, punter T.J. Conley, nose tackle Nicolas Jean-Baptiste and linebacker Ausar Walcott, the team announced today.

All of the aforementioned players participated in the Browns’ rookie minicamp this past weekend on a tryout basis.

The Browns also waived cornerback Kevin Barnes, wide receiver Mike Edwards, defensive end Paipai Falemalu, punter Jake Schum and safety Ricky Tunstall. The Browns signed Barnes and Schum in March. Edwards, Falemalu and Tunstall were undrafted free agents who landed with the team April 30.

• Originally signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2009, Conley spent training camp with the Jets in 2009 and 2010 before emerging as the team’s starting punter in 2011. He appeared in all 16 games in 2011, booting 92 punts for 3,926 yards (42.7 average) with 32 punts inside the 20-yard line. Conley spent training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. Browns suddenly have a ton of guys battling for backup RB duties. Hardesty, Lewis, Ogbonnaya, Rouse, and now Jackson. I'm shocked Jackson would sign here with the amount of guys already here.

Oh wow... very interesting.

@HammerNation19 now
Per @caplannfl Hoyer comes home to Browns

Ugh. This is going to make listening to sports radio unbearable for the next week, minimum.

Conspiracy theory: Brian Hoyer signed in wag-the-dog move to get CLE sports media to talk about Haslam less.

Two year deal...

Cleveland Browns sign Brian Hoyer to two-year deal

For once, one of the rumors surrounding Cleveland Browns GM Michael Lombardi came true.

Lombardi's long-simmering appreciation of quarterback Brian Hoyer was consummated in a two-year deal on Thursday, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Adam Caplan of Sirius XM NFL Radio first reported the story.

Lombardi spoke highly of Hoyer as a potential starter when he was a member of the media here at NFL.com. That was when Hoyer was the backup quarterback in New England, which was three teams ago. In the meantime, the Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals all let go of Hoyer. bardi reportedly considered trading with Arizona for Hoyer, but the Browns realized they could get him for free.

In Cleveland, Hoyer will simply be insurance. Brandon Weeden is the presumptive Week 1 starter, and Jason Campbell is the favorite for backup duties. (Although Hoyer should be in the mix.) Thaddeus Lewis figures to get released eventually. Hoyer provides another option, which is never a bad thing when a team is still searching for its franchise quarterback.

My guess is Weeden comes out of camp as the starter. Hoyer as the backup and Campbell is cut. 3rd string? Who knows, maybe Thad Lewis, maybe they pick up another project who gets cut. I just don't see all 3 guys on the roster week 1.

Almost feels controversy worthy, but I'm glad that they held off and didn't give up a pick for him.

Sports radio in Cleveland has been unbearable since the day before forever.

Has nothing to do with the Browns. It's gonna be a Cleveland charity kinda thing.

I'd love Donte here. Really improved his game with SF last season. But it's not happening.
