Solid add in an area of need. Gave up little for the guy. Just hope he recovers from
The injury

Still would like to see the team upgraded defensively, but I'm not sure how they do it, unless they're willing to sacrifice what Lonnie gave them offensively to improve the defense.

Would love to be able to move Bourn since he provides nothing offensively or defensively, but we're stuck with him.

It's a fantastic trade. I never saw Wendle fitting here anyways with Kipnis and Lindor/Ramirez up the middle for the foreseeable future. Moss is one of the best sluggers in the game, which is something we sorely needed. If he's healthy, this trade is a complete steal.

David Murphy seems to be the odd man out now. Another lefty that can only play the corner outfield spots. At least Raburn is a right handed hitter who should rebound a bit.

It's a nice trade and a clear upgrade, but given the fact that he's a low average/high walk guy who strikes a lot, there are going to be some horrible, uneducated opinions from Indians fans and "media" guys about how good a player he is. They'll turn on him quick and/or give him the Santana treatment.

This probably sets up another trade right?

Tough to see Swisher, Moss, and Murphy all on the same team with Santana basically the everyday 1B now.

Tito knows exactly what he's getting from Brandon Moss, he had him in Boston earlier in his career.

When he decided to embrace who he is, a natural pull hitter, he became one of the premier left-handed power bats in the AL.

Three year splits away from O.co tell the story:

.274/.361/.544/.905 - 45 HR - 15.9 PA/HR

Now he's coming to one of the most lefty-friendly power park in baseball, those batted ball figures are incredibly encouraging.

As I said earlier, it's good to protect him with high OBP guys like Santana and Brantley, having men on base will drive defenses away from the shift and give him even better looks.

He's going to strikeout in a quarter of his at-bats, that's the only negative I take away from this deal. The Indians have a lineup very strikeout prone, and it's something they'll have to improve on.

Wendle was incredibly surprising to me as a prospect, he's just not a big measurables guy and is blocked in the system by at least three players and may not have a true position.

This deal was a no-brainer, and you have Moss with two more years of team control. Take your time with him and get him fully, 100 percent healthy. The benefits will be great, and he's a top notch clubhouse guy as well.

Those of you saying "great deal" and all that, allow me to play devil's advocate. We just traded for an injured guy.

I don't think Oakland would trade him if they felt he would be very productive this year. It's not like Wendle is some can't miss prospect to justify the trade. Moss has had historically good power numbers since 2012, but automatically penciling him in the cleanup spot in December like we did with Swisher when we first acquired him is a mistake IMO.

It's always good to bet on some kind of decline.

I just look at it this way - even if he struggles with some injuries he should be an upgrade over Murphy / Raburn. I totally get the injury concerns, but for the price we paid, hard to argue the team didn't get better today.

Beane didn't exactly get the best package for Josh Donaldson either, who is an MVP candidate under team control for four years.

Moss is on track to be back to 100 percent by Opening Day, there are not expected to be any lingering effects from this surgery.

One downside I could actually see being a factor, is that since the Indians lineup is still rather left handed heavy, he's going to see more left handed pitching than he saw in Oakland (he was hitting in a lineup with two legit right handed power hitters in Cespedes and Donaldson previously), which is not good for his power

I was going to make that point as well. It doesn't help that our switch hitters tend to do better on the left-hand side also.

I do agree with everyone though that this trade obviously can't make the team any worse, and in any case this trade is a very shrewd low-risk move.
