2014-2015 NFL Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All Quarterbacks doctor the football, this is a known fact. They do all kinds of things to it. No one has ever cared or complained about, until now?

Then why does the NFL set a specific psi range at all? And do all teams really deliberately alter the psi after they've been officially measured by the league before each game? Do you have any evidence at all of that being a "known fact"?

You're making a false equivalence -- that just because QB's rub dirt on or do some other things that the league permits to the football, anything they do to the ball must be okay. That is very clearly not the case.

The NFL and ESPN are just embarrassing themselves, far as I'm concern. Give them a fine, and move on.

I'm guessing they'll lose a draft pick or two. Have them forfeit their first round pick in 2015. That's the easiest thing for the NFL to do, because they don't have to finger a specific individual. It's enough to know that the organization as a whole provided their QB an advantage in accordance with his own expressed preferences, and in clear violation of express NFL rules.

All over a slight deflation of a football, that's proven to make NO DIFFERENCE at all!

Nothing of the sort has been "proven". Just because some quarterbacks say it doesn't matter to them doesn't mean that's true for every QB.

In fact, Tom Brady himself stated in 2011 that he prefers deflated footballs. So are you saying that you know better than Tom Brady himself whether he'd rather throw a ball that's been a bit deflated?

I think you're missing the point, it's about preference, and grip. Majority of the QB's opinions fluctuate when it comes to this, but this isn't like corking a bat. There's not an advantage to deflating the football, within the small amount that they were accused of. Seriously, the only advantage is grip, and like I said, if that's the case, then every QB in the league would be guilty. Because they ALL alter the football, to get the best grip possible.

Just because its against the rule, doesn't mean someone deliberately broke it. The rule itself is so tacky, and kinda absurd.

I don't know what all the QB's do, I never said they do or don't break the rules. Do some of them do? Probably, it's naive to think most don't bend them a little, and some might even break the rules themselves.

The rules to begin with is a very grey area. I think that's the entire point, and its hypocritical for the NFL to allow QB's so much control over what to do with the football, then become the judge and jury when one might have broken the rules.

Do I think QB's deliberately try to break these rules? NO! They just doctor the football to their liking, there's been a long assumption NFL is fine with this. It's a rule, but it's not one they seriously ever enforced or taken seriously.

I don't know who made the rules on the regulation size of the footballs, and probably for the most part, no one ever really cared that much. But since it's the Patriots, and they are playing in the Super Bowl, this all gets blown out of proportion.

But most, if not all the footballs are doctored. Do they alter the rules? Again, you don't know. Fine, I don't have any facts they do, but then again, we don't have any facts the Patriots did this on purpose. So you're just making as many assumptions as I am.

Well, Aaron Rodgers was quoted saying he tries to over-inflate the footballs, above regulation, and tries to see if the refs notice or not. So yeah, there is one QB admitting he does intentionally try to break the rules.

You notice how that never made headlines? Because it was never a big deal. Because anyone with common sense, knows there's no advantage at all, it's just about grip.

So yeah, the rule is so freaking dumb, and the NFL just looks really pathetic right now.

And so what if Brady said he likes a deflated ball. His opinion of a deflated football might be 12.5, the minimum. That doesn't mean he's deliberately deflating the footballs below that minimum. For all we know, the footballs that he is picking is measured at 13.5, and either he, or someone else is taking air out of them to get to where he prefers them to be.

Not to intentionally break the rules, but maybe they miscalculated, and it ends up a little below minimum. I personally don't buy that, but hey, it's possible, I guess.

Just because the rule was broken, doesn't mean there was intent to do something malicious. Marshawn Lynch, deliberately tried to wear gold spikes, a color against the rules, so why not blast him too? He deliberately tried to break the rules!

Just for the record, here is Aaron Rodgers on record.

"I don’t know if I did, because the quarterbacks got tired of them complaining. But he said something [that] was unique: 'I like to push the limit to how much air we can put in the football, even go over what they allow you to do and see if the officials take air out of it.' Because he thinks it’s easier for him to grip. He likes them tight. Of course, he’s got very big hands and you can tell that by watching him play."

So here is the best QB in the game, admitting he tries to deliberately break the rules.

Why isn't he being called a cheat? Why isn't he being criticized? Because it's stupid, and everyone knows the only suppose "advantage" is grip, that's it. If you really want to call that an advantage.

If you want to call that cheating, then QB's that wear gloves, to obviously get the tightest of grips are guilty of cheating too. Because that's how you get the best grip.

I know a lot of people want to blame the Patriots for something. I get it, Belichick is an arrogant ass, that's been guilty of wrong doing before. And he's clearly a jerk.

If this wasn't the Patriots though, this wouldn't even be a story.

I'm amazed that the Patriots are still putting up with Browner, dude gets penalties on penalties on penalties.

It's gotten to a point where I assume every flag against the Patriots is on Browner before the call's even announced (plus I text "it's on Browner" to my Seahawk-loving buddies when I see penalties against Seattle :chuckle:)

So basically, deflation gate much to do about nothing. New reports are saying only one football was significantly deflated, and all the others were just a few ticks below the minimum 12.5.

This goes to point on what Tom Brady said he likes his footballs. He said he likes them 12.5, so most of them were just a 'few' ticks below that, sure someone might have just miscalculated is all. So Brady and the Patriots were telling the truth.

How the other football was so badly deflated? Who knows, but balls interchange all the time. It wouldn't make sense to badly deflate one ball, and not the others.

So the Patriots likely were INNOCENT. What an embarrassment this has become. The official report released seemed to be false.

This is just proof the NFL wanted this to be a big deal, to spike ratings for the Super Bowl, then the day of the SB we now get a report this was basically nothing all along!

Roger Goodell is a joke.

So glad this is almost over. Gonna need the Seahawks to do it for 'MURICA

Screw DirecTV. Satellite signal just went out because of this stupid winter storm during the halftime show....

Halftime show was awful, you should send them an extra $10 when you pay your next bill as a thank you.

Chris Matthews was on the Browns roster for a hot second. We didn't need him ofc.

Down 2 scores, to that defense? Come on, bro, that was impressive. Great game.
