2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
4 years 48 million with decreasing salary in each year is a lowball offer for someone who showed as much promise as Eric Bledsoe. Last year was his 1st full year starting and he put up exceptional numbers. He's not worth the 5 year max deal at all but he's easily worth more than 4/48 million.

Actually surprised he hasn't signed an offer sheet in RFA yet.
So? You just said his FIRST full season putting up good stats. You don't earn a max deal that easy...especially if you're already having knee problems.

i like it, perimeter defense is one of our biggest needs imo (i'm assuming Wiggins will get traded soon) so i wouldn't mind going after a veteran who can play some D (Shawn Marion should be another candidate)

Damn off-season ruined! No really good luck to the kid.

First full season putting up good stats because he was paying behind Chris Paul in LA. No one holds that against him. It's always been apparent that Bledsoe isn't lacking in ability and that he has a lot of potential. This last season just supported the notion that his production would increase when he saw more minutes. The fact that he still put up great numbers while playing efficient basketball is impressive.

And you don't pay players for what they are. You pay them for what you think they can become and he definitely has potential to become an elite 2 way PG. Easily worth more than 12 million....please.

Didnt he rush his knee op and go the wade route which has significantly increased his chances of long term knee issues.

I can see why pheonix want to try and mitigate that long term risk by giving a low offer. Sarver is still sarver afterall

I wonder if his girl is 7 feet tall, too...

I was disappointed when I heard he went that route as well but I actually heard he only had part of his meniscus removed. I have no medical background but I assume that's better than taking out the whole thing :chuckles:

Taking out the whole thing would pretty much end his career. No way he could play the way he does for 82 games without a meniscus.

Getting it removed rather than repaired was a terrible, terrible career decision. I've torn mine twice. The first time, when I was in high school, I had it repaired. After tearing the repair, I had the little bit of it removed. If I was anything more than a rec league athlete, no chance I'd do that. The piece I had removed was a fraction of his, but I already get sore much sooner and from doing much less than I used to. Enough about me.

Dwyane Wade did what Bledsoe did. You're watching him reap the negative effects. It was extremely shortsighted. Bledsoe's career's ceiling fell hard.

Back to the player - there's no way he's a max contract player. He had one very good year as a backup behind Chris Paul on a super talented team. He then had part of one good season as a starter. Why is that deserving of a max contract?

I'd rather have Kyle Lowry because he's a proven commodity. This guy is getting the same contract offer and people are treating it like it's a crime.

Never said he was a max player. Just surprised he's not getting looks from other teams in FA. I've said since day 1 of FA that I think it'll take a near max offer to pry Bledsoe away from Phoenix and I still stand by that. That's the contract I think he deserves. A max similar to what Gordon Hayward got wouldn't be a terrible overpay in the least though.

Also he had more than a "good season as a starter". Last season was his first year starting and he had a really great year when you take into account all things he brought to the table.

He was an elite defender at the guard spot, snagging almost 2 steals per game.

Put up 17.7 PPG on 48% shooting (great efficiency).

Grabbed 5 rebounds per game as a 6'1 PG.

Got 5.5 APG while sharing PG duties with Goran Dragic.

You say you'd rather have Kyle Lowry because he's a more proven commodity but Bledsoe is 4 years younger putting up >= stats. You can't hold the fact that Bledsoe has only had one season as a starter against him because he was playing behind Chris Paul. Especially considering everyone knew that once Bledsoe left the Clippers and became a full-time starter he was going to blow up (Even Chris Paul talked about this).

And Dwyane Wade is reaping the negative effects of such a procedure but he's 32. Bledsoe is only 24. Still has a lot of good basketball ahead of him. In fact even Blake Griffin had part of his meniscus removed after he tore it early into his NBA career and he seems to be doing all right. Bledsoe only took out part of his out as well and I think he'll be just fine.

Edit: http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2...dsoe-john-wall-russell-westbrook-derrick-rose

Credit to natedagg on the find but I agree with this article in terms of what he should be paid. $6 Million more than their current standing offer is a good compromise for both parties imo.

This is a pretty good read:

I'm convinced the Spurs aren't just a basketball team...they're a cult. Once you go there, you're a Spur for life.
