CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed forward Dwight Powell, the 45th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts. Per league policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Powell played four years at Stanford, appearing in 136 games (105 starts) with averages of 10.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game. The 6-11, 240-pound forward from Ontario, Canada is a two-time First Team All-Pac 12 selection. He averaged 14.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals during his senior season and was the Pac 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Powell also played for Canada in the World University Games in the summer of 2013.

During the 2014 Samsung NBA Summer in Las Vegas, Powell appeared in three games (one start) for the Cavaliers and averaged 5.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per game. He was originally acquired along with center Brendan Haywood in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for guard Scotty Hopson and cash considerations on July 12, 2014.

The Houston Rockets have reached an agreement in principle to acquire Sacramento Kings guard Jason Terry, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Terry had been a longtime rival of the Rockets with the Dallas Mavericks, and a move to Houston promises to escalate what has become an increasingly fierce rivalry between the teams this summer.

The Rockets will send a package centered on non-guaranteed contracts, including Alonzo Gee, that the Kings can ultimately waive and gain salary savings and roster space, league sources said. Sacramento will send Houston two second-round picks in the deal, including one via the Knicks, league sources told Yahoo. The trade could take some time to officially complete, based on restrictions of contracts in the deal, league sources said.

Greg Monroe set for '15 free agency

DETROIT -- Greg Monroe has signed a $5.48 million, one-year qualifying offer with the Detroit Pistons, according to a person with knowledge of the deal.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because no announcement had been made. The move sets the stage for the 6-foot-11 Monroe to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The 24-year-old Monroe has been a consistent scorer for the Pistons since they drafted him with the seventh pick in 2010, but his future with the team is in doubt after Detroit failed to sign the restricted free agent to a long-term contract this offseason.

....

Detroit has missed the playoffs the last five seasons and gone through several coaches in the process. Monroe and Drummond -- the team's two young big men -- have been among the few bright spots, but it's not clear how much longer the Pistons will be able to hold onto Monroe.

Detroit signed Jodie Meeks, D.J. Augustin and Caron Butler this offseason, trying to add some perimeter shooters to ease some of the pressure on Monroe, Drummond and Smith.

Is the best spot for Ray Allen with the Bulls?

there’s been plenty of rumors and speculation regarding [Ray Allen]'s future. The top contenders have been rumored to be the Cavaliers, where his latest championship teammate, LeBron James, returned, and the Los Angeles Clippers, where his title coach from Boston, Doc Rivers, has made a home. Subsequently, there have been reports of the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs expressing interest. The Bulls are believed to be among almost a dozen teams to have contacted Allen and his representatives.
...
With the depth the Bulls now have, it would be an ideal situation for a veteran to work himself into position for the post season. There has also been speculation Allen could wait until into the season to select a team to avoid the strain of a full season.

But going to a new team, any veteran knows it takes time to work into a system and meld with new teammates. It’s important to get in that bonding throughout the season. Perhaps more significantly, Allen provides a role and fills a need for the Bulls like he would nowhere else. The Bulls are likely the only significant contender pursuing Allen who do not have a true starting shooting guard. What an ideal situation for Allen at this stage in his career.
