2014 NFL Free Agency Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's a camp body nothing more. Their only 2 QBs for the mini camp are Hoyer who is coming off an ACL and Tanney who hasn't taken a snap in an NFL game. They simply need a body. This falls into the category of 'what the hell, let's see what he's got'

It is, he's a name.

I really like him actually, he's a shining example for how being a "winner" and "gamer" gets so easily put to bed.

Haha you're such a dick. I agree, though. But I do wish him the best, don't wanna see a guy fail. Especially someone who spent...

wait for it...

FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS A WEEK AT THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY.

Not so much interesting as it is headline-worthy.

Truthfully, I'm surprised he's still getting a shot.

I had him out of the league completely within five years when he was drafted, so him being able to hang around while still being shitty just makes me angry.

Always an issue.

That doesn't mean every time a guy is a "Winner" or a "Gamer" that they will fail just bc Young didn't succeed.

No it doesnt, but when them being a "winner" and a "gamer" is used as an argument against obvious deficiencies in the required skillsets to play QB, it usually means that they won't succeed...ala Colt McCoy and Vince Young types.

No, it means it's a generally crappy and subjective metric for judging quarterbacks that has painfully bad logic behind it.

Boobie is right about this moxie crap. I think that it's fine to take a shot on a guy who is a gamer, just don't do it in the first round.

Also, if someone's name is Shaun and they spell it Chaun... that is an obvious red flag.

Andrew Luck and RGIII are gamers... All NFL players, pretty much, are gamers. "Gamers" is inclusive of all talents that make it to the NFL and experience success; it's not a moniker of a player doomed for failure.

Or...you know...rob and shoot a drug dealer before the draft.

Exactly, it's just a bullshit moniker made up for when quarterbacks are on good teams.

It's a fairy tale.

So would you call Tony Romo a 'gamer'? How about Eli Manning?

The 'moniker' has nothing to do with talent deficiencies, and everything to do with how you conduct yourself on the field, in a leadership role. It's all mannerisms and leadership traits.

Fully expecting a response to this that reeks of boobs trying to be the smartest person in the room. :chuckles:

Well no, I wouldn't label anyone with a moniker which I think is bullshit and completely sensationalized.

I don't believe in fairy tales anymore, I believe that Romo and Eli Manning are elite athletes. Their mannerisms and leadership traits are most often judged by people who don't even see their mannerisms and leadership traits.

It's often misjudged, it's often sensationalized and it's because of those things which makes it such a poor metric for projecting talent.
