So if JT Barrett never gets hurt and Cardale never starts, then I guess Urban Meyer would be a bad coach for not playing this "unique" talent over Barrett, it's just you wouldn't know about it?

Frankly, if that makes him a bad coach, who cares. He's a bad coach who wins a ton and recruits as well as anyone. That's plenty enough for me.

EDIT: My point is, if Urban is a bad coach because he doesn't want to change his offense to fit Cardale Jones now, then he was a bad coach last year when he decided to move Barrett ahead of Jones in the depth chart and start him after Braxton got hurt.
No, Cardale was immature and didn't earn playing time. Heck, Jones wasn't even signed by Urban. He didn't play Jones because he didn't know what he had in him.

Urban Meyer is the worst 146-26 coach in the history of the game.

He couldn't see him in practice? When both guys were healthy and neither had played any meaningful minutes, Barrett beat out Jones. Did Jones arm strength and size somehow not show up in practice?

And the other thing is the offense isn't just made up of a QB. So you can say that Urban should be able to adjust his offense to fit a unique talent like Cardale, but what if it no longer suits the rest of the offense? We've got smallish, quick WRs who excel getting the ball early in open space. Should Urban just force them to be deep threat guys so they better fit with Cardale?

I know that's oversimplifying it, but there are other guys to factor in. If the other 10 guys on offense are better suited to play in a read-option heavy attack, should Urban forgo that just for Cardale Jones when he's got a very good read-option QB on the team ready to go?

Is he? I've seen him get thrown in during the middle of a game with little to no practice with the starters. Sorry, not judging him on that. He deserves a real opportunity after today, which is a week of practice with the 1st team and a start. I think we'd see better results from him from a passing standpoint.

Yeah, he is struggling to make those passes and that has nothing to do with reps. It's an easy throw to an open receiver and he's either airmailing it or spiking it into the ground. Urban was shown yelling at him against Hawaii and NIU for this very thing. Furthermore, JT has seen way more playing time than the typical backup QB and you know what? Many backup QB's win the job with that tiny bit of playing time so I don't find the whole "reps" excuse to be a good one. I just don't think having some success with a couple of designed QB runs in the red zone (Urban's words) makes him the starter.

Cardale's effectiveness is directly correlated with those receivers, because he's not a good runner. JT can still be effective because of his ability to run the ball, run the zone read, and run the offense quickly. Cardale has done none of those things this season.

How much do you expect this team to run? Elliott is fighting thru pain every week and he's already carried the ball 30 more times this year compared to last (14th in the NCAA in carries). Barrett has had a major leg injury in his last two football playing seasons. Now we're going to run zone read full time? We need to throw the ball. Period. I'm not sure why people just assume JT won't have the same inaccuracy issues that have plagued Cardale considering the shaky protection and hodgepodge receiving core. It'd be foolish to say otherwise based on the small sample size that we've seen from Barrett already this year.

Ohio State can run on anybody, regardless of QB, and the stats show that. The problems with the OL and our lack of true wide receivers is what's holding this offense back, not a pocket passer or non-zone read QB or what ever else. Fact is, JT has had the same problems as Cardale this year.

To each their own, though. I prefer a pro style system so I lean towards Cardale being the guy but it doesn't really matter as long as we keep winning. Today was a good start. Both guys were good.

That's supposing Urban can't modify his offense to fit his personnel.

Cardale is a unique talent and not playing him just because "he doesn't fit your offense" is the mark of a bad coach.

You realize Urban has probably been the best coach in history to accomplish this?

Look at the different skill sets among the QBs he's won with.

Maybe Jones isn't the unique talent everyone thinks he is. Also, this teams issues go beyond the QB position.

Given that Cardale was admittedly immature, very real possibility he sucked in practice.

Last game Cardale was captain check down. Also, neither Thomas nor Marshall, the 2 best WRs, are smallish. Both can easily get open deep.

You can run a read option system where the QB is the power option, would suit Cardale well, and still keep his throwing on the field.
