2015 Game #9 -|- #3 Ohio State vs. Minnesota -|- November 7th, 2015 @ 8:00 PM

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, one silver lining, there is absolutely no QB controversy after this one.

? is does Urban reward JT with the starting spot so soon after putting the program in a bad light.

Sweep depends, could be 2 guards pulling, could be a G and T pulling, could be the C and G pulling...but it will always be a sweep, not a lead.

A counter will always be a counter, not a lead.

A power will always be a power, not a lead.

A lead to me is you have a FB/H-back getting to the 2nd level, and either your C or opposite play side guard getting to the 2nd level, hence why it's called a lead. Never have I seen a player pulling on a lead play...cause it's called something else at that point.

That play is not a lead, not how I have been taught, both in my playing days and as a coach.
Well, football has changed a little bit. A "lead" or "iso" were very specific plays where a FB was the lead blocker. Urban doesn't use a fullback, so by the old definition, he can never run a lead.

He's using an olineman to act as the lead fullback. Might not be exactly the way you run it, but it's still a lead play.

When Urban calls a counter, often times he pulls his HBack instead of his backside tackle. It's still a counter, even if it isn;t blocked the exact way it was 30 years ago.

I think he would have demoted him from captain if he was going to do that.

Did Braxton Miller just get hurt from the actual act of catching the football?

The cameras are focusing on the fall, but the dude catches the ball and like starts flinching and pulling up. He was hurt before he got hit.

Willoughby is freaking awful. God forbid a game comes down to a field goal this season. Lord knows his ass ain't making it.

No, I would always consider that a counter, because it is always the opposite playside H-back pulling...that is the textbook definition of a counter, just subbing the H-back for a guard in a traditional offense.

I feel like I keep saying this shit over and over again, but a lead will always be a straight ahead play to me...it never involves a pulling guard, because now the name of the play has changed...what makes this play so weird...you have no one leading down field and they're all pass blocking, then you randomly have a pulling guard, which is completely different from a lead block....honestly, I think I would call that a power draw...you were right in that no one is being trapped, but a power is always ran with a pulling lineman getting to the 2nd level, hence the illusion that it looks like a lead.

Then I guess we're just arguing semantics.

Didn't see the end, what happened?

Nebraska WR runs out of bounds, comes back in and catches a TD with 17 seconds left to put them ahead...refs say he was pushed out, replay shows he clearly wasn't...since it was called a push out on the field the call stands...MSU can't get into field goal range, game over.

Ah, the old "thats why he's on defense" drop.

I mean if you want to call actual blocking schemes semantics, so be it...but I love that shit...why I am so interested in that play...I seriously think it is a power draw though...makes sense given who it is for.

I'd say a power draw is a contradiction of terms. A draw isn't a power run.

OSU does run it where a guard blocks the way a lead FB would. To me that makes it a lead draw, because you block it more like a lead. If you want say it's not a lead because a pulling guard can't lead, then it's semantics.

edit - Also, talking about what stuff should be named is the definition of semantics, I think.

I can't call it a lead because a pulling anything isn't a lead...straight up, have said that a million times to you...its now called something else. Like talking to a wall. Also, you can't have a "guard act as a fullback" it doesn't work that way when naming plays...whatever, I'm done...
