2015 NBA Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is Michael Jordan possibly the WORST executive in the history of sports? Oh my gosh, read this. Not related to the Cavs, but this is so sad.

Arguably the greatest player ever, is arguably the worst sports executive ever

The Charlotte Hornets' pick of Frank Kaminsky isn't exactly being praised. Not only is he not a great fit -- our draft grades ranked the pick as a "C" in that regards -- the Hornets could've drafted Justise Winslow, who was almost universally expected to be picked higher than Kaminsky.

A report from ESPN's Chris Forsberg reveals Michael Jordan had a pretty incredible offer on the table from the Celtics -- but Charlotte held fast so they could get the Wisconsin big man:

The Celtics made a strong final push to multiple teams in spots 4-9 on draft day. It culminated with an all-in effort in attempt to get Charlotte to deliver the No. 9 pick with Boston lusting for Duke forward Justise Winslow (the same player they coveted while trying to shuffle higher).

According to sources, the Celtics' final offer to the Hornets was a package that could have featured as many as six draft picks, including four potential first-round selections (a combination of picks from this draft and in the future). But the Hornets could not be swayed and turned down multiple offers to select Wisconsin center Frank Kaminsky.

Grantland's Zach Lowe corroborated the report:

This had to be intensely frustrating for Boston. They were throwing the whole kitchen cupboard at the Hornets for the opportunity to draft Winslow ... and the Hornets turned it down to take some guy they didn't care about. We knew Jordan was intensely passionate about Kaminsky in the run-up to the draft, but the amount he was willing to turn down to take the Naismith Player of the Year is still pretty incredible.

I get why people are slamming Jordan, but I think it's being overstated how good of a package Ainge put out there

16 and 28 are nothing to me. Rather take Kaminsky at 9 than have 16 and 28. And then who even knows how far off or what type of protections the future picks had.

People keep acting like Kaminsky will bust but he went up against North Carolina, Arizona, Kentucky, and Duke in 4 straight games and more than held his own on offense. It's not like he was playing in the Mountain West or at Butler. I think Charlotte is much improved this year and obviously Jordan didn't want to delay things for another couple of years with a bunch of mediocre picks(most of which wouldn't come until 2-3 years down the line)

I also don't put it past Ainge to put this story out there slightly exaggerated to get at Jordan.

Jalen was saying a lot of words... those words just happened to make no sense next to each other. I did love at one point Jay Williams just said "Whoa, stop. Why do you think Love is leaving in the first place?" Followed by Jalen saying something about family (wasn't clear. The words he put together did not fit together) It was like watching a two year old try to solve a jigsaw puzzle.
It was something along the lines of he only wants to put up big numbers. Really comical.

I don't want to judge teams until the offseason is over. Most of the picks from 4-17 seemed to make little sense to me, but it should mean more active trading. That plays into Griffin's strengths.

Sure, the Bobnets have five centers (Jefferson, Hawes, Kaminsky, Zeller, Biyombo) and no shooting guards. But, there are a lot of unbalanced rosters right now. Philly just drafted centers high 3 years in a row. Denver's top pick plays the same position as their best player, same for Sacramento, same for Indiana. The Celtics have a number of undersized defensive shooting guards.

Can't wait for July 1st.
