2018 Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gomes with a grand slam that ties the game.

Bauer, Otero, and McAllister all looked like garbage last night Why isn't ZMac concentrating on his curveball? We all know he can bring it at 96 MPH. What helped him last season was finding his curveball. Last night he threw roughly 35 pitches and threw maybe 2 curveballs. I like ZMac and his role will increase this season. Need to throw at least 30% off speed to be really good.

Did not like the AB's put up by Diaz. Gonzo and especially Mejia who swung at dirt balls all night.

Stealing this from the Phillies, because they've perfected Spring Training

Moustakas back to the Royals for one year, $6.5 M, with a mutual $15 M option.

Looks like our 13-man deep bullpen is struggling a little bit. I'm shocked.

I'm not honestly all that worried yet since we have a ton of guys with a proven track record.

Yandy was dandy today and is having yet another killer spring training. It's a shame there's no spot for him on this team.

Looks like Urshella will win the utility role. Never thought that would happen. Why is Brandon Barns still on this team? Talk about stealing at bats from qualified people.

Merryweather is our for the year plus since he will have Tommy John it seems like. I didn’t think he would be a factor in 18, but thought he could have done something in 19 for the tribe. It will be awhile before he pitches in the bigs now.

We needs peeps at AAA and it’s likelt Barnes will be just that person at the end of the day. If Diaz could play other positions it would be easy to see him making this team.

I don't know why the tribe doesn't at least consider moving Ramirez to the outfield in order to get Diaz' bat in the line up. Especially if Brantley is not ready to go at the outset. Having a stud right handed bat in lieu of light hitting Zimmer should be tabled for discussion.

An outfield of Brantley. Jose and Chisenhall/Davis/Guyer could be lethal. Infield would be Diaz. Lindor, Kip and Alonso. Late inning defense would move Zimmer to center and Jose back to third. Or Ramirez to second and Urshella to htird.

In the PD today, P Hoynes cited Peter Gammons comment regarding Indians management. Over the past 5 seasons the Indians have won the most games in the AL by 22 games over the Red Sox. Over that 5 year period the tribe payroll has spent 414 million dollars less than the Red Sox. Is that not the antithesis of the Browns management? Indians fans ought to reflect on how lucky we are to have a management team that good.

In the meantime, posters on Indians.com thread shit the comment section over and over again calling Dolan cheap and worthless. One in particular, Rams444 calls the tribe outfield the worst in all of baseball and that fans should boycott going to games. He says Naquin, Diaz and Zimmer have proven themselves to be major league busts.

Diaz will be a hitting machine for years to come. Naquin was third in ROY voting two short years ago. Zimmer hasn't hit a lick but that kid can ball in every other facet of the game.

The worst outfield in baseball? LOL. Brantley has made the All Star team how many times? Lonnie when healthy is a solid all around player. These type of "fans" are simply disgusting.

On the Erik Gonzalez vs Gio Urshela competition:

2 HR
1 BB / 1 K
0 errors in 45 innings

Gonzalez
18 AB
.222 / .300 / .278 (.578)
4 H
1 2B
2 BB / 6 K

Extremely, extremely small sample sizes obviously but Gio has been very impressive in his opportunities.

I'm not a big Gio fans but if after spring training is over and the numbers remain close to what they are now, then congrats to Urshella for winning the job. I still wouldn't play him ahead of Diaz though. As I posted above, would love to see Ramirez moved to the outfield and free up Diaz' bat.
