2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm sure our opinions will change once the season is over. Higgins or Callaway could improve so much that Landry may be expendable.

Higgins is gone. Calloway is in the 2nd year of a 4 year contract, he is here for 3 years more. Like Higgins, the new CBA will probably have a rule about offering your on rookies a contract to make the RFA. Higgins took our 1 year offer to make him restricted, he is completely UFA after this year, thus why I say he is gone. If he takes another short contract, it will be somewhere with less competition at the WR position to pad his stats.

That said, I like Higgins, but he isn't good enough to invest in when we got Odell, Jarvis and Antonio all locked up long term.

Gotta hang on to Landry to keep our superstar happy. Landry could be willing to restructure his deal before he'd want to be traded. Seems like those two always wanted to play on the same NFL team. Keep it together.

Then they both should be more than willing to cut their salaries to make that happen. If not, hello 4th round slot WR that will give us 75% of Landry's production at 1/12th the cost.

Honestly, Jarvis is a candidate to restructure if he wants to stick around. A second WR who isn't a deep threat isn't where you allocate your cap space.

I appreciate the hell out of him, but it's just going to be business when the time comes.

QB, DL, Secondary, #1WR, OL. That's where you spend the money

Landry has a particular skill-set. It isn't easily replaceable at a high-level as he is arguably the best at what he does.

I don't think Higgins or Callaway are the same type of player as Landry, nor do you want a guy like Callaway being used in a role that isn't complementary to his physical ability. Or a waste of it.

The ideal situation is keeping Landry for on-field and for OBJ reasons, in a re-structured deal.

Landry is the perfect compliment to OBJ and the younger guys. No reason to broom him unless absolutely necessary.

As an aside, when Baker's due, if I'm Dorsey, I straight up tell Baker he can have whatever contact he wants. If he wants to be the richest qb in nfl history, we'll find a way to make it happen. I think he'll take a discount to build a better team.
I think you are correct. Baker will make more than enough money to live a very comfortable life. He seems like the type that wants to win a Championship above all else. Just to prove the doubters wrong.

If he meets his ceiling, he'll be a Pro-Bowler.

He may get so good that they will have to choose between Callaway and OBJ.

Worst-case scenario of his best-case scenario is that one of OBJ/Callaway has to be moved because both would cost a fortune after 4-5 years of running a raw-dog and bail train on the NFL.

And then getting a first back in a trade to avoid cap doom.

I feel like I've been the highest on Jarvis here (or at least the only one currently defending him) and I've never come close to claiming he's some sort of superstar. Can you show me where these people who claim he's a superstar are? I don't understand where your overrated comment is coming from.

The dude's a damn good WR and one of the better #2's in the league.

I said he's overrated outside of Cleveland. The guy has made 4 straight pro bowls because he's viewed as a consistent pro bowl quality player by most people. Yet on here, we have people saying he's not really that important, he should be cut in a year, hes overrated, etc, etc.

There's not really many people in that middle ground it seems. Outside Cleveland he's a perennial pro bowler that receives a good amount of media attention and is a really well known name. But here... he's just meh for a lot of fans.

I personally think your view of him being a damn good #2 WR is accurate in my opinion and falls in that appropriate middle ground.

I mean shoot if Callaway reaches his potential, with Jarvis, Njoku, Chubb, Hunt, Duke etc, this is a very good offense with a lot of weapons that we technically have control over. IF Higgins walks, I think we will be alright since he is in the 4th WR role, which isn't the hardest to replace at the end of the day.
