2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cleveland browns are mocked to pick 4th in 2019 by Walter football and 5th by CBS sports. It’s about that time of year to start posting the mocks again.

I can only scout the top 2 prospects, I don't know how to research theses 4th or 5th prospects. Tradition.

As someone who is trying to get into Football more this year what would be some of the positions the Browns are looking to improve at going into next years draft? I saw some people lament the fact that we didn't draft chub and others say that next years draft would have more LB's of his caliber (If that is actually the position he plays, lol I'm not very football savvy) so would that be one of the key positions to scout?

Offensive tackle — specifically left — in my opinion, interior defensive line perhaps, safety depending how Randall/Peopers play, offensive line depth, I’m sure there are some others I’m missing. Linebacker depth too if not finding another plus starter depending how Schobert progresses.

Would absolutely love to get Nick Bosa next year.

But so far I'm on the Ed Oliver bandwagon. That guy looks like a monster.. Him on the same line as Myles Garrett..?

Sign me up. For either of those two.

Of course, much rather be picking in the 20s.

Or 32.

Just watched some clips of him and holy shit... How somebody that big able to be that fast? It's like the O line isn't even there, he just warps right through them.

We aren't getting either of them unless we're picking in the top 3/top 5.

Good news is, we can still get a Bradley Chubb level prospect later because this DL class is so stacked.

Yeah, I mean unless we have a few key guys go down and whatnot.. Say the wheels come flying off for the Browns and shit just goes south.. Then acquiring one of them would be so amazing.

Absolute pipedream obviously.

Listen here buddy boy, we might be picking in the top 3. Don’t forget who we have at the coaching helm. He’s looking at starting a udfa at left tackle.

I'm nervous about Desmond Harrison, but I want to see him line up against the Steelers before we call the plan a failure. There are a few undeniable facts in play:

1. In an interview early in training camp, Bitonio voiced his preference playing left guard instead of tackle. This is likely because despite his skill, he is unquestionably undersized to sustain success at tackle.

2. Harrison was highly regarded as a prospect but made some dumb mistakes in college. He is still 6'6, has longer arms and larger hands than Bitonio. He also recorded one of the fastest 40 times from a tackle in the past decade. I wish he participated in the other measurements, but he beat out a few Browns vets fair and square.

3. Harrison had a third to fourth round value going into the draft. Some services had him higher than O'Neill out of Pitt and Jamarco Jones of OSU... he does have that baggage which caused him to go undrafted. I think the biggest reason few Browns fans are thrilled with this is nobody was watching West Georgia play football last college season. I sure wasn't.

Defensive tackle is overwhelmingly the biggest need of the team right now.

Here's how I would rank the positions of need in terms of starters...

1. DT: It's Ogunjobi, who only played 301 snaps a year ago, and a bunch of unproven bodies.
2. LT: I would like to see Bitonio play LT this year with Corbett at LG. If Harrison can improve his functional strength, then maybe he can take over at LT in 2019 with Bitonio going back to LG and Corbett sliding over to replace Zeitler at RG. But if Harrison can't handle it, getting a young LT and letting Bitonio continue to play at his natural LG spot would be ideal.
3. WR: Landry is a fine starter, but Gordon and Callaway are eternal question marks. Higgins, Ratley and Willies are JAGs right now.

There aren't many positions on the team that have a glaring lack of quality starters right now which is a good thing.

One of the biggest reasons Harrison went undrafted was because teams really needed to see him in the Senior Bowl to get a good read on him after his troubles and travels from Texas to lower level FCS. Unfortunately for Harrision but fortunately for us, he got an illness right at the time of the Senior Bowl and was not able to be seen going against other good D1 senior talent in the practices and games. Without that info, his stock took a big hit. But the measurables and talent have always been there and IF he follows through in that talent the Browns scored a COUP to be able to secure a potential stud LT on min salary for 3-4 years w out using a draft pick.

Imagine how awesome it would be next May with our 1, 2, and two 3s knowing we don’t have to draft for need at LT and are free to use that 1st on a stud DT, DE, DB or WR

We have a ton of talent, but also unknowns on this roster. We put money into both guard positions, Center and RT. We have solid DEs and we don't need a starter in the LB core. CB was handled pretty well this offseason so:

LT is a big question mark, can one of the guys we have take it for themselves? If not that has to be the first objective in my opinion in next years draft.

FS has some talent but will Randall be the answer when he struggled as a CB in the pros. That to me is another question mark going into this season.

WR has question marks with guys since we have talent, but can Callaway and Gordon stay out of trouble? I mean we will likely get someone there next season in the draft to help with depth.

I am actually not as worried about some about the DLine and at DT, as some are, but if the best player available is a DT, then for sure we are taking one.

We really won't know for next years draft who are target is since we don't know how the LT spot will play out yet, if Randall will be a legit FS in the league etc, but if the draft was tomorrow, it would be LT, WR, FS honestly for me. If the best player was a DT then I would take him if there wasn't anyone of equal skill in the other 3 positions.

Also, the biggest need on the team to address in the 1st round and hopefully second, is elite difference making talent.

It sounds painfully obvious but moreso than a perfect puzzle piece of roster construction, having those group of player that regardless of position just impact and disrupt the game so much is key.

Yes there are positions that receive more weight when considering high picks but more than anything we need the kind of elite talent that makes the game easier and simpler on the remaining 75-80% of the roster and the coaches.

Thankfully, we think we’re already covered at QB1, elite edge rusher, CB1 and potentially WR1 and LT if Harrision develops the way they seem to think he can.

I think that puts us in a spot to use next years first on a variety of positions with the priority placed on true difference maker instead of strictly best player at positional need.
