2023-24 Playoff Series #1 | Game 2 | Magic @ Cavs | April 22, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He was a high energy guy. Great in the boards. Limited offensive game
Allen is a much better all around player and I am sorry. Do not see many similarities
Andy knew how to wrestle for boards.. that is what Jarret is looking at.. there is a lot of hand work in close combat under the rim. Thompson is expert.. one of the big differences I see with Allen this year, is he has figured out how to use holds and inside grabs against "dirty " players like the Wagners..

The thing with Andy was he also had some of the best hands in the game. It would obviously show up with how he could catch everything and finish in all sorts of creative ways, but he also was a master at tipping boards to himself or teammates.

Rebounding is the “Get The F*cking Ball!!” attitude. Rodman had it. Varajao had it. Moses had it. Jarrett has had it these first two games.

He’s doing a lot technically right but for me it’s his attitude that’s the biggest reason he is a beast out there.

There’s one ball and several men going after it. When we say “ He played a man’s game out there” what we really mean is he beat every other man out there to the ball. It’s that simple. No, you won’t get every one, but he got way more than his fair share.

Jarrett had 9 offensive boards but he ALMOST had several more where he was battling three guys by himself and got his hands on the ball but it was poked away. He's obviously picked up some tricks on how to get position.

Dennis Rodman was the best offensive rebounder of his gereration and one of the all-time best despite being 6'7", 220. He learned how to turn sideways and squeeze between players to get position, giving them the smallest possible surface area to block out.

Strus has been huge coming in and getting 18 rebounds the first two games when Allen and/or Mobley have been locked up in a wrestling match with an Orlando big. He reminds me a little of Josh Hart of the Knicks who is the same size but gets tons of rebounds.

Hart averaged 8.3 rebounds per game in the regular season. In two playoff games against Philly he's averaging 14 per game - incredible for a guy who is 6'4". The Knicks won those games by 3 and 7 points.

Okoro needs to study Hart's game because there's no reason he can't do the same thing. He'll never be a scorer so he needs to make his impact with defense and rebounding.

So do we also get to say "told you so" when the team loses while displaying the poor tendencies that people were calling out in the regular season?

This culture is toxic, the eternal optimists having a holier-than-thou attitude and the pessimists bordering on rooting against the team just so they can be right

Everyone shut the fuck up and stop pitting Cavs fans against Cavs fans, imo, at least until the playoffs are over.

That’s exactly what would be happening if we were down 2-0.

I guess I’m one of the optimists since I didn’t agree we were hopelessly doomed but I’m not holier than thou, I’m a God-fearing atheist.

How about NO? I’m all for respectful exchange of different opinions.

The tweets linked are literally calling people stupid for "overreacting" about the team's play. That would probably include a good 75% of this forum.

Two wins against a mediocre team is not an indication that the concerns were unwarranted.

this is not an accurate description of RCF over the last couple months, and even less so during the playoffs. but i'm gonna leave this post in place only since you managed to mischaracterize both "sides" equally. you may be accurate about idiot twitter posts but that's true across all forums.

mods on this board are actually quite impressed by the tenor of posting this difficult season. we temp banned some folks who stepped too far, but honestly, it's not been nearly as bad as it might have been given all the way way ups and all the way way downs, sometimes in the same game.

if the cavs run into a brick wall soon in the playoffs, all bets are off. :chuckle:

One correction, Rodman was the best offensive rebounder ever. When you take Russell or Wilt stats and put them through tee "% of available rebound" metric, Rodman blows them away too.

More teams than not are going 9 or 10 deep. No need to go this hard every game. Especially when you’re going to ride the same 8 next series. Our vets can hold down the fort for 8 minutes a night.

I admit I was having a pretty shitty day when I posted that and my language could have been better/more careful. I agree that it is not representative of RCF, that's kind of the point I was making. Most of RCF expressed legitimate concerns towards the end of the year. If that tweet was calling our level of concern "stupid and overreactionary" then yeah I take offense to that. Full stop, if someone posted here on RCF, "Whoever was concerned towards end of season is stupid and overreactionary," that would be a problem, right?

If the tweet was only about the cesspool that is Twitter, then sure yeah there were probably some hyper reactionary shitty takes that could be called out.

If I simply jumped the gun and took the Tweet too personal, then that's on me, but, that's how I interpreted it.

A 47-35 record is not "mediocre."

In the spectrum of NBA teams they are somewhere just north of "mid" at best, in the spectrum of playoff teams they are probably one of the worst teams. So I went with "mediocre."

It's awesome that we are winning, it's just not evidence that all of our concerns were unwarranted.

This team is not perfect but they try like hell and have had a tremendous season factoring in the injuries, not the least of which is the current injury to Dean Wade. Four of the Cavs' top six 5-man units in terms of point differential included Wade. Individually Wade had the second best point differential on the team behind Mitchell.

They just need to get Garland to cut down the turnovers (9 in two games) and Niang and Strus to start making more than 11% of their 3's. LeVert is only 5-for-15 but the Cavs outscored the Magic by +7 and +2 points when he was on the floor so he's been contributing. I'd just like to see him shoot better, but the Magic have a lot of height inside and he's not really an outside shooter.
