2023-24 Season | Game #13 | Nuggets @ Cavs | Nov. 19, 2023 | 6:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs win by 12, because of garbage time. The game wasn't that close.

They need to trade Mitchell while they can still get good assets for him
This is a great indicator for Mitchell to understand we shouldn't need him to go hero unless it's the end of the game. Until then, keep the ball moving and play within the flow of a DG led offense.

That should be first choice to see if it can be done over forcing a trade for a sub optimal return.

A good portion of the league can't be traded until Jan 15. So until then, unless there is an absolute perfect deal out there, you let things play out and use games like tonight as a guide for the players to understand how they should play.

But for sure, both this trade season in Jan/Feb and then this offseason there are going to be some interesting choices to be made/opportunities to be had.

Mobley two games in a row showing confidence in the free throw line jumper. Not going to lose that in all the good. The fact that he rose up and nailed it early allowed him to feed Allen multiple times in a high/low action because the Nuggets respected him as a threat to shoot.

Porter is the real deal. Nice to find a quality backup point guard in an undrafted guy.

Wade does a lot of little things that impact winning. Quality defense and solid rebounding. He’s an ideal insurance guy that can be inserted into the lineup with good players around him.

The elephant in the room is going to continue to be how Mitchell fits in. We were reminded tonight of how talented the pieces around him are. They can’t be reduced to watching him end possessions every time he touches the ball.

Nice win.

CPJ needs regular minutes. Kid seems like a gamer.

Garland is getting better by the game it seems. Still bit by the turnover bug a bit but I'm seeing more decisive drives and less wild dribbling.

Jokic deserved every foul he got. Allen stood in there and took those shots. It helps that Allen is light as a feather because it really exposed some offensive fouls that Jokic gets away with against every other team.

That was fun.

A win against the Nuggets without Mitchell is a nice win.

Mitchell is a smart man. He sat there and watched how we played. If he cares like I think he does, he'll make adjustments to make this thing work.
I mean ideally we could keep the guy permanently and play like this.

Doesn’t seem realistic, but yeah.

Yea that's always kinda been the difficulty in debating players in the NBA.

If you have a bad team and you want them to be a playoff team, Mitchell is the better player.

If you have a good team and you want them to be a contender, then Thompson.

It's hard to rate which guy is ultimately the better player overall in those scenarios. We see that a lot though.
It parallels the current debate I've seen on social media/YouTube - would you rather have Iguodala's career or Carmelo's? Could make that Klay or Mitchell.

It's great to be the man and the best player on the Knicks for half a decade, and to score so many points. It's also great to be an important part of all the winning. And, most relevant to this discussion, prime Carmelo could not have helped those Warriors win the way Iggy did (or Klay).

Credit needs to be given for the approach coming out of the half.

There is no way that feeding Allen the ball down low and on lobs, knowing that an low effort defender in Jokic aready had three fouls, was not a conscious decision made by the staff at halftime.

Seems like we could have won tonight even without it, but that 10 point Cavalanche by Allen seemed to directly lead to Jokic getting frustrated and forcing two straight offensive moves that led to fouls 4 and 5 on back to back possessions.

I think about Harden that way.

Harden has all of the personal accolades. The MVPs, all the all-star games. He'll be considered a better player career wise by the history books than Thompson.

Yet....he's never gonna win a title, and it's mostly his own fault for the way he plays the game. He's been on uber-talented teams in multiple places. He can't ever use the excuse that he didn't have enough help. He's had more than enough help.

But it's also because of the way he plays the game that he won his MVP award too.

So that's the tradeoff.
