2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry was a bad joke about the kind of relationship that Trevor gets himself into.
I got it, and thought it was funny.

Best not invite me to the next family outing....at least that's what I hear from my own family....shrug

Its really not just the accusers that is Bauer's problem, evidenced by outbursts, clubhouse issues and being a general annoyance everywhere he's been.

This isn't a guy like Kaepernick who is a STRONG leader and alpha male type, with strong morals and coming from a good family before being black-balled from the league because of his political beliefs.

Bauer is just not a great guy, likes to beat women for sport and claim they wanted it afterward, easily manipulated, with a lengthy history of burning bridges and projecting a holier than thou approach to baseball culture in general.

Gavin Williams is being shut down and given a cortizone shot in his elbow after experiencing a reoccurance of his pain after throwing 50 pitches. My guess is this goes on for a couple of months and they finally throw in the towel and have surgery.

Or do rest, rehab, give it a shot, shut it down, and repeat all year and get the surgery next spring like Bieber.

The elbow was originally injured when he was working with weighted balls. This guy already throws in the high 90's - why is he working with weighted balls?

My guess is his elbow was already about to go and if it wasn't the weighted balls it would have happened when he was pitching. I'll be surprised if he pitches any innings this year. It seems like once a pitcher develops an arm problem it's there until it gets fixed with surgery. Maybe McKenzie will be the exception.
Every scan they've done do not reflect any sort of damage. So let's see

The other difference is Bauer can ball and Kaepernick can't.

Kaepernick took a team to the Super Bowl and Bauer missed the most important playoff run of his career because he injured himself playing with a children's toy.

Impossible to keep a straight face with that comparison -- given the lacking QB play in the NFL right now it seems comical to pretend he couldn't play in the league or compete for starting roles. But ultimately the NFL ownership got what they wanted and black balled him from the league.

But this isn't an NFL thread, so will re-focus back to the topic.

Bauer is out of the league for plethora of reasons relating to his poor character.

First off, you don't like Bauer and neither does Manfred...

Bauer when it comes to baseball, he is a baseball nut and you wouldn't find anyone that you would want in your group of pitchers that way. He did help his team mates develop and he would help out that young crew that way...

Problem is, he isn't an individual outside of baseball you should really be around in my mind. He's not nearly as bad as you are stating, but he is extremely opinionated and enjoys going to the parties to meet girls. I don't see him as a heavy drinker, but I see him as a person who thinks he should be the life of the party.

A place like Cleveland, I don't think it would be smart, but a place that has no nonsense veteran SPs it may work better since he would have to stay in line... I don't think a young manager and young roster should gamble on him...

Let's start with the premise that as a pitcher, Bauer is clearly good enough to be part of the 5 man rotation on just about every team in baseball.

No idea if he is a "great guy." That is not usually a requirement for a pro athlete to get a job.

His sexual interest is in rough sex. Not for everyone, but it exists out there and isnt illegal. There is no supported indication that any of the women involved with him did not consent before it happened. The one that has been the most vocal, clearly lied.

Burning bridges might apply to Cleveland. It doesn't apply to the other teams. And plenty of major league players have left teams under messy circumstances. They get more jobs and Bauer had several after Cleveland including a record contract with LA.

He has said things to piss off the baseball establishment. Not sure that is a smart thing to do, but if that is preventing him from getting a job then he is being blackballed.

Plus Bauer has always been more durable... He is part of the reason why we had so many great years of pitching since they embraced his outlook when it comes to a lot of different pitching setups.

It's hard to be optimistic with so many pitchers going down. Take Bieber, for instance. He spent half of last season rehabbing - no surgery. He had two solid starts at the end of the season. In the off-season he went to a pitching academy and worked on his delivery. He added a couple of mph to his fastball and sharpened up his breaking stuff.

First start of the season he went six shutout innings, striking out 11. But the next day his arm was sore. He started one more game, which made it worse. Now he's getting TJ.

What Williams is going through sounds like the same story. Arm pain, rest and rehab, pain goes away, gradual build up, everything feels good, but when you finally take it out on the freeway smoke starts coming out of the engine.

I want to be optimistic but just can't.

Bieber and TMac though had damage they could see in the elbow, while Williams does not have the damage.

Surgery on what Wham? The MRI revealed no structural damage that includes his UCL. I mean you might be right in the end, but the information given so far does not support that. There's inflammation and they don't know why. There are numerous reasons for inflammation so I'm more confused right now than concerned.

Kaepernick was just a guy when he was still playing. All his numbers were average at best on a bad football team. Bauer was at the top of the league the last time he played. Comparing them on the field is no comparison at all. I guess you have a man crush on "alpha male" Kaepernick but try to be a little less biased.
