2024 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How is his catching though? I'll take a Kwan type from the catcher all day IF he's a solid defensive catcher...

Nothing negatively to report about his receiving, blocking, framing. Looked fairly solid.
His arm looks well below avg though. He moves quickly to release it, but the one SB I saw sailed on him and was off. 2 for 2 in SB, one was 3B steal (didn't see that one though).

Dreaded SSS but prized prospects are off to slow starts at Columbus. Oh and Straw is also struggling.

Velasquez apparently isn’t catching much, if at all, this year?
Petey Halpin is the hitting star thus far in the system.

He's not catching and alarmingly high SwStr%

But the lift and pull is still there, also just 9 PA, lol

I just hope we didn't draft a bigger version of Joe Naranjo there.

This FOs fascination with big dollar HS 1B and completely shying away from cheap college 1B is their weirdest kink, and just negative ROI, I don't get it.

He is still young and I'd be surprised IF he isn't getting daily C training, they just don't like him in a game yet as a C...

It's too early to say anything about anyone, I'll wait until essentially June to really evaluate any of the really young guys...

I appreciate your 1WEEK SCOUTING REPORT, but I can’t get excited for any prospects up or down performance after a handful of games, especially with the elements being pretty bad, but I do agree with Brito defense being very suspect, be interesting if his bat plays up like everyone suspects, therefore what position he can play regular to hide his defense…….
This is why I don't bother to check Milb scores, or even go into the minor league threads, until at least 2 months in. Just can't really determine anything from such small sample size.

Dealing with/ Handling disappointment is a huge aspect of the game. Both guys performed great in spring training but both got sent to minors to keep playing. Now they are dealing with the disappointment.

I suspect both will bounce back and excel as the year goes (on whatever level they play at).

I'm waiting until June to really judge most of the players in the minors when it comes to stats and whatnot. We won't know anything after a week with position players...

More Minor Observations, Sunday Rainout Edition:

Lenny Torres sat 97 with good armside movement, slider was plus as usual. That's a backend bullpen arsenal.
I thought from the first time I saw Lenny Torres on video and when he was drafted that his home was in the pen.. more than ever, now..

Angel Martinez back in action with the Clippers tonight playing 2nd base.
