2024 Season | Series #9 | Guardians @ Braves | April 26-28, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I prefer to take things slow because baseball is such a long game but Laureano has NOT looked valuable at all.

I could see why the A's wouldn't want him though because they are so overflowing with talent.

Laureano is bad bad. Ready to ship his ass to the food line and bring up Manzardo. Idc about pitching mismatches. Vogt will find a way to make it work with Arias and Fry.

Beede is also on my shit list. Promote Curry back. Having a legit long reliever in the pen would help since none of our pitchers can sniff the 7th inning.

Agreed with everything. It's time to act fast and jump ahead of a future prolonged team slump. Manzardo will be a jolt, not just a team spark. Curry is much better than a few guys now, including Beede. Considering it's the Guards, I'm expecting Manzardo just before August.

Arm conservation is going to be a huge problem with the innings these starters are getting. We need multiple mop up guys in the pen.

Very true. He's 23. Turning 24 in July.. so we can still get his prime locked up if he's brought up next week.
Delauter and Watson will be baking in Akron until they're Rule 5 eligible though. They're young young.

Manzardo is a first baseman. They're not going to release an outfielder and replace him with a first baseman when they have Josh Naylor and they use the DH to allow various regulars to take a day off their feet but keep their bats in the lineup.

I could see releasing Laureano and bringing up Jonathan Rodriguez, but they committed $5 million to Laureano this year so I don't believe they would release him in April.

Well, I thought starting Logan Allen and his 5.06 ERA against the best hitting team in baseball was not going to end well. Unfortunately, I was right. He had a good first three innings but the second time through he shot himself in the foot by walking the leadoff hitter and hitting the next guy (Olson, who came in 1-for-28) with the leading RBI guy in the majors coming up third.

Then a bloop and it was a 3-run inning. He gave up another run in the 4th. He just has no margin for error against a batting order like this, and he made a couple of errors.

Moving on from Laureano is the easiest decision to get Manzardo on the 26 man. Without Laureano we still have 3 guys on the bench who can and do play on the OF weekly with Florial, Fry and Arias. All three deserve more ABs and Reps.

Sucks to waste 5m on Laureano. But he's providing zero value. He had a great play tonight saving a double. So props to him. But he's worthless at the plate and doesn't come off as a valuable vet like Hedges does.

I'm tired of seeing him and he loses more value each appearance he makes.

I think he will get until sometime in May to right the ship... Then we will make a move...

Though I think we will likely add another OF or utility if we cut Laureano over Manzardo personally...

Sunk cost. Waste of money. DFA him and bring up Rodriguez.

I forgot about Floreal. If Laureano is gone we still have Kwan, Freeman, Brennan, and Floreal even if we don't bring up JRod. Also, Fry and Arias can play a corner OF position.

Rocchio is down to .197 and he's 2-for-20 batting right-handed. Sale struck him out twice tonight on seven pitches.

Game 2 preview:

Charlie Morton, a 40-year-old right-hander, goes for the Braves. Morton is 2-0 in four starts with a 4.70 ERA. In his first start he went 5.1 shutout innings against the pitiful White Sox, but in his last three starts he's allowed 12 earned runs in 17.1 innings (6.23 ERA).

Lefties are hitting .260/.762 off him while righties are at .176/.537.

Morton has been a starter in the bigs since 2008 and has 356 career starts with 132 wins and a 4.01 ERA. This is his 17th season.

The first time through the batting order opponents are hitting .212 but it jumps to .300 the second time through. I assume he throws a ton of breaking stuff.

Tanner Bibee goes for the Guardians. He has a 4.44 ERA but in his last two starts he allowed 3 earned runs in 10.2 innings. Two of those runs were on solo homers. None of the Braves' hitters have ever faced him.

Sale's arsenal is just gross. 20mph difference on his FB and Slider, which seems to have 15 inches of horizontal movement.

Assume they will give guys like Rocchio the month of may to see if the warmer weather will help turn things around

Well a few things here… if you truly think that’s the case, we won’t see Manzardo at all considering Naylor isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But we all know it’s going to happen eventually.

And by getting rid of Laureano we still would have Kwan, Freeman, Brennan, and Florial in the OF. And even Arias as a super utility who can. There’s no shortage of options.
