Since the FO has made its bed with the decision to fly with nothing but kids, and have hoarded so many of them, the question is twofold.
1) What to do with them all?
2) How much rope do you give any of them?
We have five positions sewn up...catcher, 1B/DH, 2B, 3B, and LF.
Right now we have Freeman, Rocchio, Arias, Brennan, Florial, and Fry on the 26 man roster. Martinez, Brito, Tena, Valera, Rodriguez, and Noel are on the 40 man. So is Straw
Tena, Valera, and Noel are in their final option year. Freeman, Rocchio, and Arias will be, if they are sent down. Florial can't be sent down.
Manzardo is expected to be added soon. Delauter may be added at some point. If they are called up, they are gonna play.
Thats a total of 15 players to cover four positions, plus three utility spots. There are roughly 2400 PAs this year to divvy up between them.
Manzardo, Delauter, Brito, and Martinez have trade value. The others, without many options, have very little, unless they excel immediately.
The FO very quickly has to decide which youngsters to give away. They don't have years to do it. The FO has put its back to the wall, and every other GM knows it.
