This trade addresses needs for all three teams, and with Sacremento going down the toilet right now and the risk of losing Peja in the offseason this gives them a kickstart to their rebuilding process.
Cleveland gets a big in the paint who with Z will form the best big man combo since Duncan/Robinson.
NY moves a very promising rookie and an expiring contract but gets an all-star/3pt shooting champ, veteran pg (snow) and a big who can do dirty work.
Cleveland Trades:
Snow (5.4)
Gooden (4)
Pavlovic (1.2)
Cleveland receives:
Brad Miller (8.75)
Sacremento trades:
Miller (8.75)
K. Thomas (6.1)
Peja (7.6)
Sacremento receives:
Frye (2.2)
Hardaway (15.75)
Pavlovic (1.2)
Gooden (4)
NY Trades:
Frye (2.2)
Hardaway (15.75)
NY Receives:
Snow (5.4)
Peja (7.6)
Thomas (6.1)
It works under the new CBA.
WHY DO THIS??
CLE - snow's contract sucks, pavlovic isn't being used, gooden is as good as gone next season. Miller gives the cavs 15/7/5 a night, and can play pf or c. Rotate with marshall and anderson and the frontcourt is great.
SAC - Peja has essential told the team he is gone next year, so they get value for him. They are in rebuilding mode anyway. By moving miller and thomas, they drop $85Million in long term contracts off their books, not to mention older guys. By getting Frye and Gooden back in return they start a quick youth movement. Frye is having a great rookie year, and attended U. of Arizona - near by. The maloof's get away from luxury tax area by lowering their cap by over $13 million next year. They can resign gooden if they want, they can do a sign and trade, or let him go entirely. Pavlovic gives them a potential replacement for peja - not nearly as good, but same position. Their record will be about 5 games worse with this lineup, but they aren't making the playoffs anyway and they kickstart their youth movement and rebuilding.
NY - Money is almost no object to the Knicks, and Larry brown really wants Eric Snow. While they lose Frye - they already are stacked in the frontcourt, quantity not quality. Peja is an all-star and 3pt champion, so he will add to the overall skill their, and thomas is an upgrade to a few of their overpaid and underskilled pf's, granted he is overpaid a bit, but he is much more consitent, and a harder worker than rose, taylor, etc.
