so your saying Irish Americans do not have a culture? an ethnicity ? deal with offensive stereotypes? not been persecuted at any time? not discriminated against?

The Irish, Italians ,Chinese, Asians,Jews and other European immigrants.


The Catholic Irish werent very well accepted by a protestent nation. The Irish as a culture then assimilated themselves into American Culture by throwing the African american under the bus.

The American Irish as a group had the opportunity to fight for what they believed in. instead they Caved into the majority and followed the majority line of thinking.

so i find the logo fightin Irish very offensive because they certainly didnt fight for what they believed in when they had their chance to make a better society. its a fraud

Whats retarded about it? The mascot is a little, drunken Irishman wanting to fight. Thats a stereotype, but it just isn't seen as a big deal. None of this stupid mascot bitching is important. It just gives the people filing the lawsuit a cause in life that makes them feel important and its easy, rather than dealing with the real problems of Native Americans and reservations like a loss of identity or alcoholism.

As someone else pointed out already, the mascot is a leprechaun.

The mascot was also created and used over generations with the full backing of said group.

I'm bracing myself for a change, hell I still call the ballpark "The Jake", and I'll still wear the Chief Wahoo, but this is just outrageous anymore and it might be time to do the Indians right and listen to them.

It's taboo to try to draw similarities between the oppression of two cultures, apparently. You don't have a complaint if you're not of a different "race" is what seems to be the prevailing wisdom. This means that on this issue, all people aren't equals. It's odd, though, because the nature of these types of issues are all in an attempt to "make everyone equal".

I suppose it's racist of you to try to compare a "white" culture's plight to that of Native Americans' because their isn't a cartoon caricature representing a sports team that depicts the stereotype of a culture.

Chief Wahoo should probably go; especially if it has the effect this $9 billion lawsuit claims it does. This fact, apparently, negates the possibility that similar forms of "oppression" could be happening towards other cultures that don't have a naturally occurring, darker skin.

So, in short, don't go there or else you'll be ridiculed.

I'd be more interested in reading about Tornicade's detailed analysis of each insurance claim he took while volunteering as a clean water distributor on the Indian reservation in South Dakota than read any more opinions on this.
